I believe the establishment types (like NRO and the rest) want to fabricate an image of Walker for conservative consumption. They want us to believe he’s the guy for us.

You're going to have to redesign your anti-Walker talking points. This one is nonsense.

I wouldn’t call them anti-Walker talking points but other than that, maybe you’re right. Here’s a better way to say it:

I believe the permanent political class prefers Walker over Cruz.

Why would they?

Because they know enough about him to know the democrat candidate can beat him.

The other possibility is they see him as the lesser of two evils, where Cruz is the greater evil for the left.

We don’t want to hand 2016 to the democrats.

And we want a president who is the strongest Constitution fighter.

Favorite fool the (less informed) voter tactic, vote Yes on closure then vote No on passage. Hypocrites!

Unlimited legal immigration is little better than unlimited illegal immigration. We shouldn’t be taking in more than we can assimilate.

WRONG.

Taking in skilled, driven, educated legal immigrants who become fellow Americans in every way, is GOOD for America.

Trying to force American businesses to rely on an inferior workforce put out by the piss-poor American education system with kids so entitled that they have a piss-poor work ethic, and trying to force America to rely on this very flawed resource pool to provide innovative entrepreneurs, is guaranteed to make America WEAKER.

Legal immigrants since 1776 have powered a wonderful engine in America. You want to put it on hold? Rush Limbaugh often talks about how liberals try to describe prosperity and income in terms of a limited pie with only so many pieces to go around, when in truth the size of the "pie" transcends any of that, that the idea of one person becoming poor as a result of another one becoming rich, is a fallacy. Rush is correct -- and the SAME PRINCIPLE IS TRUE for America's ability to assimilate skilled, productive, innovative legal immigrants. We can assimilate ALL of them.

On the other hand, we cannot continue to thrive and prosper without them.

Big mistake.

Cruz is RIGHT -- as usual.

The Dems have already thrown the kitchen sink at Walker and couldn't beat him in three elections...beating the crap out of Democrats is one of his selling points.

That sounds plausible. But there must be a reason the establishment prefers Walker over Cruz.

Well then, let’s just increase H1B visas 10 or 20 million then, and create a work permit program for all the low skilled farm help. There you go. Immigration problem SOLVED!

Well, I, for one, think Walker has outflanked Cruz on the immigration issue. Walker isn’t saying legal immigration is bad for the country, but he is saying that it could be bad for American wage levels and that we should consider that impact when the limits are set.

Cruz had the choice of agreeing with something that most Americans will find to be a fine stroke of logic, or instead erecting the straw man that Walker is against legal immigration and attacking that, but that necessitated his making some very strong statements about immigration that even a considerable portion of his political base might take issue with. Given the current job market, the depressed wage levels, and the flood of illegals here already, is it really wise to stand proudly for what sounds like all the foreigners that want to come here legally. (He didn’t say that, but it’s not hard to get there from what he did say, and that’s his mistake. I suspect he can rely upon Walker to politely ignore it, by the way. We’ll see.)

Given his proficiency at debating, I suspect he’ll soon decide he erred and that Walker has a point. His attempt to get the headline changed to something less confrontational, as indicated in the addendum to the article itself, is probably an indication of that.

First of all, let me say that I’m sympathetic to your argument.

That said, however, the above rationale reminds me very much of the way liberals have moved the country closer and closer to nationalized healthcare. First, you mess with the markets and the providers and the insurance system, and then you come in and “fix it” with an even worse system.

In this case, first we let liberals destroy the domestic labor pool, or a good share of it, by meddling in education, family, welfare, etc., and then you fix the problem by letting the domestic labor pool rot at home on subsistence welfare payments while replacing them with immigrants.

You might be right that it’s the only way to regain what we’ve lost economically, but in doing so you abandon those we’ve already mistreated with a crappy system. I think Walker will have a great deal to say on this as the campaign progresses, but we’ll see.

And, as I said at the outset, I agree in principle with your statement on legal immigrants; they’ve served the country well over the years.

Banning better skilled, better educated immigrants from other countries who seek to become American citizens, is tampering with the labor markets, a form of government protectionism. Say we put an embargo on such immigrants, and for the next 20 years America's talent pool is by government decree limited to the folks here. They don't have to be their best because they're protected. Our education system is lousy and minimum wage (among other things) has created a piss-poor work ethic in our youths. You want to limit America's future to THAT?

Cruz wants to repeal ObamaCare, as well as Common Cause. Repealing and replacing are two different things. Repealing it IS the "fix," and restoring States and individual rights in health care and keeping the Federal government far away the solution. Any Republican candidate who offers a replacement "fix" is only calling for more different government meddling, and my vote will go elsewhere.

Cruz is consistent right down the line. Allowing for the same kind of legal immigration that we always have instead of enlisting the Federal government to offer "protection" against its own "high-skilled workforce" by refusing to allow the same other countries to immigrate here and adopt America as their country the way most of our parents, grandparents, etc., did, is very far removed from the same rationale that caused Obamacare.

The principle is simple: LIMIT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Just helping you out, Extreme. I’m being a lot nicer than the left will be over this. Hey, I’m all in for Cruz. I get it, but I’d rather not have someone who says “do as I say not as I do.” Why give the left unnecessary ammo? This is a totally unforced error. Justify it all you want but I still say it really looks poor that he’s not executing his day job satisfactorily. Perception is everything in politics, and the left will paint this with a large irresponsible brush.
