Natalie Lopez summoned the courage to show up. This was several months ago in front of the Chaska City Council.
Lopez, a hard-working mother of a preschool child, did not want to be there. She's an undocumented immigrant. In the minds of some individuals in this state and nation, her ilk is as much a pariah of society as, say, violent sex offenders.
"What part of illegal don't you understand?" is the slogan with these folks. When I hear this, I'm reminded of a poster of an American Indian siding with this view and then imploring all who broke numerous treaties and came from immigrant stock to pack their bags and book one-way fares back to their ancestors' motherland.
No human is an illegal. If some of us choose to tag humans on the basis of lawbreaking, then we should also apply it to tax cheats, adulterers, highway speed violators and such. But we don't.

Yes, I have run into that mind set too. Usually when dealing with HR.
All of this is such nonsense. I do not know of any DMV that asks for proof of citizenship. You must prove a residency (utility bill, mail, etc.), and a SSN (yes, illegals can get SSNs even from the SSN office. You get some silly number that starts of 995 or something like that.). If you cannot do those things, the odds that you have had any instruction, possess insurance, or are in anyway responsible is slim. It is hard to imagine, the way I see many people driving, that they were able to pass a practical test.
Don’t license them. Deport them. Lease the whole Greyhound fleet for a month.
And if the White Man is here illegally, wouldn't that make the Brown Man just as illegal? Under both the Indians' and the White Man's rule?
Exactly, Indians were stealing land from each other long before the white man came.
The whole idea is to transform them into consumers (regardless of their invader status); that is why public schools can’t ask about their status, and this push for licenses is to sell them cars. The safety or other interests of American citizens is meaningless to both parties.
Now, hold yer horses: I have reason to believe he’s not even an American citizen.

Don’t they have licenses from their home countries? I’ve used my drivers licenses from various US states to drive in other countries.
