Round in the Chamber?
blackmanwithagun.com ^ | 4/24/2015 | Michael Woodland

My response was, “Always carry one in the chamber, not having one in does not compute with me.” My reason for saying this is easy, that is how I train. SFC Scarborough responded by stating that he does not feel safe with a round in the chamber, but that is how he trains. Now my thoughts are really trying to make sense of this, but then again, training prepares you for a serious encounter… right?

The eternal argument for everything to do with being prepared, ‘well, I haven’t needed to yet’.

This question really depends on what kind of weapon one is using.

I would carry with one in the chamber for some weapons, but with others, I would not.

I doubt you have a corner on Brains and reason.

I have been around longer than you and I have been in situations where they would not have been enough.

The “brains” part comes from avoiding those situations.

Cocked and locked on a 1911 is pretty safe since two safeties must be engaged to fire the hammer down, the grip safety and the lever safety locking the slide and hammer. Many hand weapons now have hammer safeties built in, which require the trigger to be all the way back to remove a hammer block to allow the hammer to engage the firing pin/sear combination.

Yeah, your’re right. But I’m too humble to dwell on it.

I ride all day horseback and almost never find trouble.

Well...as long as trouble isn't looking for you. I chose a carry solution that was secure to carry ready-to-go, fully concealed, and tamper-resistant, and verified I can draw and fire in a fraction (1/5 to 3/5) of a second without a glitch.

Of course I only carry when I'm in a free state, California DOJ minders, so don't get all cross-eyed on me and send the SWAT next time I saunter on down to Whole Foods.

Preparation means not putting yourself in that situation.

I have been in a situation which I might tell later but it takes a long time, but there was no way to know it was going to happen.

I was extremely fortunate that I was armed and armed with a high capacity pistol.

“No need to carry a firearm.”

I agree completely. But then, I don’t believe in fire extinguishers, crash helmets or emergency exits either.

To a coward that is afraid to walk in the open and live free.

Are you a female? That kind of thing is acceptable for them, and most of us males prefer that our females live as you recommend.

You are right, he (Regal) is awesome .
He was able to ascertain the caliber of the pistol during the confrontation .
Or maybe they went out for coffee after.

I am not a female, b ut I certainly agree with your point of view. I can certainly see how women and frightened men would need to carry guns. I just go about my business armed with the talents and protection that the Lord has provided. Cuts way down on expensive hardware (although to most it’s just a hobby and nowhere near a necessity).

“A properly designed modern firearm CANNOT fire just because it was dropped.”

That’s right, but in the 70’s the Salt Lake City Police Department was issuing S&W Model 39’s, and sometimes the lock room sounded like the 4th of July. S&W finally admitted there was a problem.
