Chipotle to Stop Serving Genetically Altered Food
NY Times ^ | 04/26/15 | STEPHANIE STROM

Posted on 04/27/2015 4:38:12 AM PDT by Enlightened1

In a first for a major restaurant chain, Chipotle Mexican Grill on Monday will begin serving only food that is free of genetically engineered ingredients.

“This is another step toward the visions we have of changing the way people think about and eat fast food,” said Steve Ells, founder and co-chief executive of Chipotle. “Just because food is served fast doesn’t mean it has to be made with cheap raw ingredients, highly processed with preservatives and fillers and stabilizers and artificial colors and flavors.”

In 2013, Chipotle was the first restaurant chain to indicate which items contained genetically modified organisms, and a small but growing number of restaurants, largely in fine dining, also now label their menus.

Grocers, too, are moving to offer consumers more products free of genetically altered ingredients. The shelves and cases in Whole Foods stores are to be free of products containing such ingredients by 2018, and Walmart is vastly expanding its selection of organic foods, which are free of genetic alteration by law.

Even big food companies are moving to take genetically modified ingredients, or G.M.O.s, out of their products or to label products so that consumers know which are free of them.

Whether other major restaurant chains will follow Chipotle’s lead is uncertain. The increased demand for such products has made them more expensive and difficult to obtain in the amounts that big businesses need.

Seems like Europe banned GMO stuff years ago. It’s embarrassing that it takes the USA this long to catch up with Europe.

Europe banned “GMO Stuff” and created a smear campaign for it because they couldn’t compete with the superiority of the the product. Like corn that is naturally resistant to disease or pests and as a result requires less use of pesticides and other chemical sprays.

I’m all for using high quality raw materials. I am against demonization of GMO’s. Non-GMO does not equal high quality.

Millions have been poisoned by man’s attempt to chemically “enhance” GOD’S creation. If GOD says it is good, it is good.

Are you familiar with the Eugenics? If not, then I strongly suggest to research it.

Nevertheless, if you think it’s great, then eat it up, Although it should be labeled if it’s GMO or not.

Hey if you are proud of the GMO, then brag about it. Don’t hide it.

In unrelated news, Chipotle announced it will no longer make duffle-bag-sized burritos that are 4/5th rice.

GMO or non-GMO has nothing to do with the quality of the product. It has everything to do with making it resistant to pests. I went for about 7 years where I though I was allergic to tomatoes. Every time I ate a tomato product I would be sick for a few days. Using GMO techniques they made the tomatoes toxic to white fly larva. My doctor had me try non-GMO tomatoes to see if it was the white fly toxins that was my problem. It turned out that I’m not allergic to tomatoes; but I cannot eat the toxins designed to kill white flies.

It is the corrupt FDA that, despite their own rule against labeling GMO’s Organic, allowed for a paltry 25 million, Canola, which is a genetically modified rapeseed, to be labeled and sold as organic.

Europe didn’t ban it. They forced label laws, that all GMO products had to be properly labelled. The consumers then have a choice as to whether to purchase GMO foods.

Watch the film GMO OMG. The US consumer is actually being used as a guinea pig by government and Monsanto as the effects of eating GMO soy and corn that can tolerate being sprayed with weed killer Roundup won’t be fully known until years from now.

I did see a study with rats (United States), funded by Monsanto's, that said GMOs were safe. Think it was a 3 year study. It was to counter the 10 year study in France that showed rats with massive tumors. I've read other studies that said 3rd generation rats on GMOs were 100% sterile. To be frank you can find a study that says mixing water and electricity is safe. Here are the rats with the cancer tumors from the 10 year study.

So you are against agriculture? Mexican farmers turned the plant on the left, which God made, into the maize on the right

And wild cattle did not produce 10 gallons of milk a day.

You may like your genes spliced the old fashion way, but I don't see the logic in your basic premise.

And billions starved to death because man had not figured out the science to enhance agriculture in the past.

It’s simple, as a consumer we should have the right to know what’s in a product that is being sold, so that we can choose whether we want to purchase it or not. For those who are not concerned about consuming soybean that was genetically modified to tolerate being sprayed with Roundup weed killer, by all means consume that product. Not me nor my family.

And what is equally disturbing is our modern food supply, and how it developed to support the fast food industry and the advent of the supermarket. Watch this film also available on Netflix

Food Luddites.

Their goal is to destroy the largest, most efficient food producing machine ever created.

The continent of Africa, which has millions of starving, has only four countries which allow GMO wheat. The rest are not allowed to grow these life saving grains.

That is the long term goal here too, forcing people into starvation.

Chipotle is the only chain restaurant we frequent. My little ones chow down on guac, black beans, and rice, while other parents bring in Happy Meals for their kids. One mom was shocked when my son asked what that red box was. My kids have never had McDonalds, lol.
