---snip-- Unbelted detainees have been paralyzed and even killed by rough rides in police vans." It even has a name: "nickel rides," referring to cheap amusement park thrills.
Police brutality against prisoners being transported was addressed just six months ago in a plan released by Baltimore officials to reduce this misconduct. Department rules updated nine days before Gray's arrest clearly state that all detainees shall be strapped in by seat belts or "other authorized restraining devices" for their own safety after being arrested

A straddle loading of a suspect is not that unusual in my humble opinion for what went down.. I would suspect the major wound if you will was sustained in the passenger compartment.. Either from when he was more than likely lifted an placed or Even ‘tossed’ into the back of the vhicle. If lobbed, no telling how he landed , was his head turned askew.. Rough ride. Possibl. Does the vehicle have a black boxy thinhgy.. Etc?
Sad, innocent shop owners and businesses will pay before all the facts are in and evaluated accordingly.
Was the police wagon/car in a wreck on the way to the jail? Why is this seatbelt thing such a plot point?
Was he riding head first?
If so, a sudden stop could very well break his neck.
I haven’t heard reports that he was injured at the point of arrest. It is possible the cops knocked him off the bike and injured him that way, but I have not heard.
say it correctly...its not a seatbelt but a theetbelt...
Do you know if there’s been an official autopsy report released yet?
The Baltimore cops had a little game they played with arrested suspects. They would not belt them in then drive the van over speed bumps, potholes, curbs, anything to give the suspect a “rough ride”. They called it giving them the “nickle ride” and was endlessly entertaining for the cops. In this case it resulted in the suspect being seriously injured.
Somehow, we have to alert the PTB that their agents can’t kill people indiscriminately.
Seatbelt riot!
Throw back a bottle of beer
Seatbelt riot!
Pull a comb through your coal black hair
But he might have been injured DURING his arrest... if he resisted arrest (not that ever happens).
Ah, I see. Wow, if they did that, then those idiots should serve time.
Also, I hope we get some automatic weapons fire on the rioters soon.
Did the same thing myself while dry heaving with kidney stones.
It's called resisting arrest in most cases. I can't tell you how many times we had to carry convicts because they refused to comply when being escorted to the box. Don't know if the injury was received before he was put in the van.
In the article, one of the officers in the van told the lawyer that Gray was kicking and making noises in the van up to the time they arrived at the station. I don't know if the medical examiner will be able to determine at what point he received his injury. His parents say his spinal cord was almost completely severed, but is that info a result of an autopsy?
Saw is arrest record here , has been a very naughty person. Drugs for sale and using mostly
“Better than burning the city down.”
Oh I don’t know... Ever been to Baltimore?
No doubt, but trial and sentencing shouldn’t occur in the back of a police van as alleged.
“But he might have been injured DURING his arrest... if he resisted arrest”
True, even if he wasn’t resisting arrest. And arrest for what? Eye contact?
There are no heros in this story
Baltimore cops are corrupt and abusive.
The Baltimore political class is even more corrupt and incompetent
Freddie Gray was a career criminal and thug
Many of residents of Baltimore are worthless scumbags.
The whole city is a freaking disaster and everyone is getting what they deserve.
Ahem, that would be:
Zoot-suit riot!
Hilarious
