'Good kid': Lawyer pleads for Boston Marathon bomber's life

Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's lawyers pleaded with a jury Monday to spare his life, portraying him as "a good kid" who was led down the path to terrorism by his increasingly fanatical older brother.

David Bruck delivered the defense's opening statement in the penalty phase of Tsarnaev's trial, saying there is no punishment Tsarnaev can get that would be equal to the suffering of the bombing victims.

"There is no evening the scales," Bruck said. "There is no point in trying to hurt him as he hurt because it can't be done."

Other than being a mass=murdering terrorist, he’s a good boy? Perhaps he is religious, but that is not the same thing, not to the sane 90% of the country.

Lawyer hangs dead older brother out to dry. Dead can’t defendthemselves.

These guys are terrorists but defense lawyers are often just scum.

That’s right. That’s where we are at. Except for this little firecracker prank, he’s really a good boy. And his dead brother was really the bad guy. And punishing him won’t change what happened, ad naseum... That’s what we get to listen to.

The strange fascination with this creepy kid among certain factions reminds me of the same obsession some had for the Menendez brothers some years ago.

Courtesy of a very anonymous statie, here is Tamerlan "Speed Bump" Tsarnaev as he was after that final battle in Watertown, MA (the noises from which I heard while sitting at my computer, as I followed the breaking story of the murder of Officer Sean Collier):

The chick in the boxing photos is Katherine Russell Tsarnaeva, the brain-damaged bimbo from Rhode Island who married him and got pregnant by him.

Dzhokhar "Joker" Tsarnaev needs to be executed in a manner offensive to the religion of Islam!

Let us remember that the lawyer is doing his job by law, where every person on trial is entitled to a defense. The beauty of our legal system.

No. The beauty is the justice the jury can give him.

Treating islamic terrorists with kid gloves only invites more terrorism.

The lawyer and the terrorist should be sent to the firing squad together.

Sure it can. Kill him.

Whenever the topic of lawyers in general comes up, I remind those in the conversation that they are the only ones speaking in a courtroom who are not under oath. The “light bulb” looks on their faces is amazing.

This is not to say that there are no good lawyers but as of right now they suffer from the same group identity problem as does the black community. Only they can fix it without blood letting.

Yes, indeed. In a previous consulting career, my conclusions were ultimately used in legal proceedings. As a result I had (willingly...) been subjected to thousands of depositions, hearings and trials where my testimony was under oath.

Occasionally I would have to remind the opposing counsel (although I don't remember ever doing it in a jury trial) that I was the only one in the room under oath. The offending nitwit would sputter and stomp with some unrelated retort that they were a "sworn" member of The Bar, but ultimately the point stood.

Give me the chance. I could come close enough.

Give him a backpack full of pressure cooker and drop him into the middle of mob in Baltimore. Remotely detonate him and let him “make some space”.
