A prisoner sharing a police transport van with Freddie Gray told investigators that he could hear Gray “banging against the walls” of the vehicle and believed that he “was intentionally trying to injure himself,” according to an investigative document obtained by The Washington Post.
The prisoner, who is currently in jail, was separated from Gray by a metal partition and could not see him. His statement is contained in an application for a search warrant, which is sealed by the court. The Post was given the document under the condition that the prisoner not be named because the person who provided it feared for the inmate’s safety.
The document, written by a Baltimore police investigator, offers the first glimpse of what might have happened inside the van. It is not clear whether any additional evidence backs up the prisoner’s version.

True. But the majority of FATAL spinal injuries are a result of one or more broken cervical vertebrae, which ARE in the neck.
In an area that small it isn’t really that hard to distinguish. Someone doing the banging would be making physically exerting noises in the process. Sounds of a scuffle are fairly distinguishable and I doubt anyone will simply go limp and let themselves be smashed into walls. Even if they are after the lawsuit lottery. The body will simply react automatically to defend itself.
Perhaps sounds of a struggle would be evident - But I think it more likely the sounds of a struggle would more closely resemble a struggle if neither party was in handcuffs and leg shackles, though.
The riot will ensue whether there is an ounce of truth or not. The truth is irrelevant to those who behave like thugs.

He very well could have been faking it because of the injury he already had and had gotten a large pay out for. Maybe he thought “I’ve already got an injury and I’m going to pretend the cops are hurting my old injury.” Then he gets in the wagon and bangs his head one time too many and one time the wrong way and HE turns out re-injuring himself. Typical Darwin Awards stuff.
That could be a possibility.
My impression was that he generally was not cooperating with police as they arrested him.
Basically, a person can choose to make it easy for police to place him in transport, or a person can make it difficult for police to place him in transport.
I thought he might be doing the latter, but I really can’t say for sure.
I assume that they would catalogue the contents of his stomach as part of the autopsy. Seizure due to? I know not!
One report tonight was saying that he had not been strapped into his seat which was a relatively new departmental mandate. Also, the other prisoner may be recanting.
The slant on the roof, see the bolts right there, he could have banged himself over and over again...which is what I think he was doing...repetitively. These bolts do not have to be pointed out far at all to leave an impression on the skull...I just think he was having more than a hissy fit...and was really enraged he was arrested...as could be seen from the first photos taken of the arrest. I’ve seen enough temper tantrum in prison cells , (confined areas), to see what habitual criminals can do to themselves in order to have a “hospital vacation”.
Here’s a guy on PCP (not confined in a small place)...see how he thrashes and distorts his body...so there’s no telling what Gray was on...it is known he was a druggy. I don’t know if he was or not...

I really could have hurt himself too, and I swear I read his lips with him saying he wants his mom :O
