Police officers in Atlanta fatally shot a woman who first fired at them while sitting in the back of a patrol car Thursday, authorities said.

Two officers were investigating a call about a stolen car Thursday afternoon when they saw a woman sitting inside the vehicle in a parking deck, said Major Darin Schierbaum.

He said they took the woman into custody and put her in a patrol car, and that at one point she fired at least two shots at the officers. Schierbaum said the officers returned fire, critically wounding her. She later died at a hospital, he said.

The moral of the story: frisk a suspect carefully.

I took a class from a woman who used to help train cops. The scenario was always set up so that the rookies thought it was a real arrest. She'd pose as the suspect, and the rookie was supposed to check her for weapons. Then afterward they'd let the rookie know it was a training exercise, and have her disarm in front of them.

She said she got so good at hiding weapons that she usually had at least a dozen that they'd miss. She loved the look on their faces as she pulled one weapon after another from their hiding places.

Frisking carefully is harder than it looks.

I live in the Atlanta area. This was top news last night at 10 PM.

No mention of races, yet few white women steal cars in metro Atlanta.

Overall Atlanta ia *now* one of the better run ‘black-led’ cities. Kaseem Reed is a pretty good mayor, and keeps the overall rhetoric to a minimum. He doesn’t really employ much if any of the Sharpton-esque vitriole.

A friend had training like that in the Marines decades ago (demonstrating all the places a weapon could be hidden); I’d think it was SOP for cops to have that.

That will be the case in more and more of these stories; residency laws and affirmative action together will ensure that the welfare reservations are policed by the respective minorities quarantined there, and they can fight things out themselves. Sort of like the Indian police on reservations; they tend to those wards of the state themselves.
