i am always reminded of that video of the famous communist guy who ran to the west, i think it was the 1980’s. he did a whole series of videos on how the communists planned to deconstruct the west, from movies degrading the military, to degrading the family, religion, teachers, universities etc.
the goal of all of this was to encourage the rise of a central authority that would ‘sort it out’, just not the way you thought of course.
one of his comments was the 25 year plan they had to break down law and order by convincing people that all the police were corrupt and should not be trusted. he believed, if i recall, that this was a key step.
just sayin, i find that very interesting....in light of current events

That was common before the 1980s, look at the Vietnam war movies where the Americans were always incompetent, afraid, and evil, and movies of international espionage, the enemy was almost always the American government and the CIA, and generally the KGB was portrayed as less evil and corrupt than American agencies.
Look at many of the famous movies of the era, America was the great spy evil.
