GW should have ditched Rove. He’d have been a lot more popular, really. He was a true gentleman, as Laura was a very gracious and non-pretentious ‘First Wife”. I liked GW, and although he had many faults, had Rove not insisted on the president’s every move, almost, GW would have come across a lot more human. He might have even made an outright attempt at winning the war, not trying to overturn regimes. I could be wrong, but I felt much of what was wrong with Bush’s decisions lay at the feet of Rove.
What made Reagan the greatest president of the generation, if not the century wasn’t that he was a good man, though he was, wasn’t that he was the smartest guy in the room, he wasn’t, it was that he surrounded himself with good men who were smarter than him, and listened to and usually followed their advice. Where he didn’t, his expertise in people guided his evaluation of the mere technical issues.
I hope to live long enough to see another Reagan.
Remember, Carter gave us Reagan, and obama out Carters Carter at every turn...
I remember listening to the news during those years and hearing Karl Rove said this and Karl Rove said that and thinking what the heck!! We didn’t elect Karl Rove.
