Prosecutors seeking to convict six Baltimore officers in the death of a young black man severely injured while in police custody will focus not on what the officers did but on what they allegedly failed to do: provide medical attention to 25-year-old Freddie Gray inside a police van on April 12.

They are charging everyone in the chain of the arrest and transportation. They’ll see if one will turn against the others.

“There are a couple of angles the defense is going to use- and rightfully so- the prosecution has to prove, without having been in the van witnessing what actually happened, how the injuries occurred- it’s going to be very tough for prosecution-”

From the timeline laid out in the State Attorney’s press conference, it seems like the angle they are going for is not necessarily that the officers caused the injury, but a broader argument that the offices showed a reckless indifference to human life by (a) creating the circumstances in which the injury occurred (restraints, no seat belt), and (b) failing to respond to his requests for medical attention (and further failed to respond when he was apparently unresponsive).

i could tell you stories from ex cop friend and my own experiences in the cab. White girls going into projects for drugs and never coming out. I went in ONCE to rescue one. She was being raped in the stairway.
One Friend had his gun pulled from defective holster and shot three times. Feces and urine in the halls.
Babies with diapers that smelled so bad you tried SO HARD not to vomit and on and on.
But even some here seem REALLY REALLY concerned that he “wasn't buckled in” To quote Spaceballs “buckle this”

OMG - what city was this?

The poor babies....not a chance in the world. Drugs have really destroyed so much.

Secondly, can the driving be blamed for it when the perp was bashing his head into a bolt matched to the back of the van?

So who put the fatal bolt there? I doubt it was Caesar Goodson.

I'm sure there is plenty of civil liability on the part of Baltimore. But second-degree murder? I don't see it.

School buses are actually designed for use without seat belts - that’s why the seats are (a) close together, (b) taller than typical car seats, and (c) heavily padded. They are designed so that, in the event of an accident, the child will hit the padded seats around him/her.

You're rationalizing. Just because school bus seats are taller, padded and closer together doesn't doesn't mean that they wouldn't be safer with seat belts. I believe on average about 10 kids die each year on school buses and thousands are injured.

The idea is that this way is safer than seat belts because (a) many school-aged children on a bus would not use the seat belt properly anyway, and

The ones who do use seat belts would be safer.

(b) in the event of a serious accident (especially involving fire) the time spent cutting kids out of seat belts could lead to further (and more serious) injuries.

Well if that's true(and I don't think that it is)then the same argument could be made for kids in cars and passengers in police vans.

Police van driver to judge: You're honor, I didn't buckle in the passengers because...in the event of a serious accident (especially involving fire) the time spent cutting kids out of seat belts could lead to further (and more serious) injuries.

All they need to do is over-charge the one that was the least involved and he will rat-out the next guy, and he will rat-out the others.

It's immoral for the government to over-charge anybody. I can't believe anybody would support such a tactic.

Perhaps in the future the government will charge you with a crime in hopes that you may have seen something happen. Good luck having to defend yourself against something that you didn't do.

NO chance. Staten Island, the north shore.

South shore mostly Italian and Irish with Albanian and Russian and Asian moving in. No trouble really. Mostly gangster crime that doesn’t affect the average person, at least directly.

North Shore. All black. Took white woman to get drugs. She got out at gas station and went across the street. She was beaten and robbed before i could even get over there.

Another white guy looking for drugs pulled out of the back window and beaten. I took off and called cops. There was nothing i could do.

one guy jumped into care telling me his fiancé shot him lol. I rove him for a mile to hospital an we chatted. Seemed nice enough :)
and on and on and on.

BEST story, took white fat guy, maybe 40 to north shore to score crack and hookers. Let hooker in the car, boy was she ugly. She tells him to give her 300 bucks and she’ll be right back with crack. I said she’s not coming back in a million years. She cursed me an left. She never came back with the three hundred or the crack lol.

In a perfect world he should have been belted in, but I’m not going to judge officers dealing with violent, irate, drugged up prisoners for not risking their safety to enter a van and buckle them in. I imagine the police union is challenging this newly implemented regulation for safety reasons.

By the account of the other passenger who was not injured, this was not a rough ride. Gray did this to himself, most likely so he could file another lawsuit. Unfortunately for him, he overplayed his hand.

But BEST story...took two of my paisans to get crack. Didn’t know them but knew they were Italian. They bought crack from guy on the street that ended up being chalk dust.
They pulled out two cannons from wherever, but these guns were Big, lol, and said to take them back to the projects.
I dropped them off and then TOOK OFF!! don’t know what happened net.
The wrong Italians to cheat.

I do not support such tactics, but know that such tactics do take place in order to get the accused to plea or to rat people out.

However, it would appear that citizens love such tactics as DA’s are re-elected at a rate of 95%.

[[By the account of the other passenger who was not injured, this was not a rough ride.]]

ThaT’S A SCREWED UP SITUATION TOO- NOW THERE ARE REPORTS THAT AN IMPSOTER HAS TESTIFIED DIFFERENTLY- woops cps lock- and there is now question as to wether the actual van rider has changed his testimony-

It’s ugly no matter how you look at it- The police officers are most likely going ot get railroaded because the city fears what the THUGS will do to the city- I think they’ve already gotten to the other perp—

That very likely is exactly what happened- however, proving it will be difficult in the courtroom- as will disproving it

I would like to see the written directive, both old and new. I suspect there would be some language that covers officer safety.

Yikes! Why were you driving these people? Were you a cab driver?

These people are fairly stupid - they’re beating up and robbing their customers. But I suppose there’s an endless supply of customers for drugs. :-(

Someone here posted a video yesterday about how Clinton oversaw drug running in and out of Arkansas and of course was himself a user. Just disgusting. Why does evil always do more than it’s share of winning?

[[So who put the fatal bolt there? I doubt it was Caesar Goodson.]]

Is that what they are saging killed him now? I thought it was a broken neck that killed him, no?

And I didn’t say the officers will be convicted of Second degree- I said that likely, they will get it reduced to negligent homicide because of the restraint strap issue IF they get anything at all- second degree murder is going to be VERY hard to prove- I believe with second degree you need to prove callous willful intentional indifference to human life with intent to murder- I might be mistaken about that-

Oh, I agree that school buses should have seat belts. I was just explaining the current rationale for why they are not required.

[[showed a reckless indifference to human]]

And I believe that definition falls under negligent homicide if I’m not mistaken- they are charging htem with higher crimes, but I think they will argue for negligent homicide if they don’t have enough evidence for higher crime-

I just picked them up and dropped them off. I was broke and they were good paying runs, called crack and back. I closed my mind and eyes and pretended it was all up and up, nothing to see here. I’m sold my integrity for a cab fare :(.
