The founder of the organization that sponsored the Mohammad cartoon contest in Garland, TX, has long been in the news as an incendiary spokeswoman for anti-Islamic causes.
Pamela Geller is the founder of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, an organization also known as Stop Islamization of America, which was formed in 2009 to oppose the building of a mosque and community center near the site of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. That controversy propelled Geller into the national spotlight.
AFDI has been classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Geller, who is Jewish, has been denounced by the Jewish Anti-Defamation League as rousing public fears about a vast Islamic conspiracy to destroy American values.
Though she is has voiced support for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, her strident rhetoric and sweeping accusations have caused many conservatives to distance themselves from her.
She accused two prominent conservatives of being sympathetic to the jihadist cause, which she believes led to her exclusion from the Conservative Political Action Conference in 2011. She said that Grover Norquist and Suhail Kahn were puppets of the Islamic Brotherhood, and they used their influence to bar her from CPAC.
On her blog, Atlas Shrugs, she called Norquist a dangerous Islamic infiltrator" and said Kahn, a Republican consultant and former Bush White House official, was worse than Anwar al-Awlawki, a terrorist killed by a U.S. drone strike in Yemen.
Geller insists she is a defender of freedom of speech against jihadists and a shadowy group attempting to impose Sharia law on the United States. The U.S. Constitution is under attack from fundamentalist Islam and Shariah," is the mission statement of the SIOA.
She repeated that stance in interviews with Fox News and CNN on Monday after the attacks, saying the attack was on free speech, not her or keynote speaker Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician who is on an al-Qaeda hit list.
Civilized men can disagree. Savages will kill you when they disagree, she said to CNN, adding that in America we're abridging our freedoms so as not to offend savages.
In that same interview she denied being anti-Muslim, but said she is against the 25 percent of them who support Sharia law.
She told Fox News that the media is part of the problem, as well.
"We see across the world Sharia enforcement by violent jihadists," she said on Fox & Friends on Monday. "And the media scrubs, whitewashes the jihadic doctrine. What happened in France [the Charlie Hebdo slaughter] could easily have happened here."
Whatever happened to Norquist and the NRA?
No islamic who does not whole heartedly believe in the American way of life should not reside in the US of A. Otherwise, why are they here?
“Didn’t yesterday kind of prove her point”
Yes it did, she was right about the mosque at the site of 911, muslims build monuments at the site of their victories and I believe those who wanted to allow the mosque to be built knew exactly why it would be built, they were bending over for our enemies. Thank You Ms. Geller for standing up for America and our freedom of speech.
The real winner of the “DRAW” mohammad contest, is as far as I know, an unidentified Garland Texas Police Officer.
Was his name Quick-Draw McGraw?
*don’t* you for-git *it*!
