Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore 'fighting for his life'

A northern Idaho police officer was in critical condition Tuesday after being shot by a suspect who stole his patrol car, led a 125-mph chase and got dragged from under a semitrailer by a police dog and arrested, authorities said.

Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore was shot once around 1:30 a.m. after checking on a suspicious individual in a neighborhood, Police Chief Lee White said.

"He's still fighting for his life," said Sgt. Christie Wood, spokeswoman for the department. "He's very critical."

Wood declined to say where Moore was shot.

Moore, a 16-year veteran of the department, called dispatch to get information on 26-year-old Jonathan Renfro, White said. Not long after, a resident called police.

The resident "had heard a noise that sounded like a gunshot and they shortly after said that there was a body lying in the street," White said at an early morning news conference.

"From the information I've received so far, it doesn't look like an ambush-style attack," the chief said. "This was just a bad guy doing bad guy stuff and our officers doing what they were trained to do — and that's trying to keep our communities safe."

Renfro has a long criminal record and is currently on probation. He is being held in the Kootenai County Jail.

My question is, why is he still breathing? Prayers for the officer and his family!

"Renfro was booked Tuesday morning in the Kootenai County Jail and will face a judge for the shooting around 4:00 p.m.

Authorities described Renfro's criminal history as "extensive." Court records showed he has faced multiple charges in both Latah and Kootenai County. The 26-year-old from Rathdrum, Idaho was named in 13 cases since 2004. His charges include everything from theft to assault to DUI.

Renfro was on parole for battery on a peace officer and grand theft at the time Moore was shot."

Yep, definitely a thug.

It blows me away that former AG Holder and many other libs including judges are making a huge issue over 3 strike sentencing laws, they kept habitual criminals off the streets and behind bars where they belong.

Well damn!

Not truly surprised though.

If the dirtbag Renfro was required to serve his entire sentence instead of being placed on parole, Sgt. Moore would not be fighting for his life.

We have our share of them...

What? No violent demonstrations? Looting? Burning?

Absolutely, as do we.

It’s great to see good citizens applaud the capture and/or departure of criminals instead of thugs rioting, looting and burning for supposed civil rights violations.

Those responsible should be held accountable.
