It’s the same with me.
I’ve been peppered real good with birdshot but that’s it so the thought of getting cut up bothers me more than the thought of getting shot.
The knife I usually carry daily is a Victorinox. It is a step up from the “Spartan” but I can’t recall the exact name. Of the maybe two dozen Swiss Army knives I own including the huge Swisschamp, I like it best.
I probably use the toothpick more than any other tool but the screwdrivers get a lot of use too. The main blade also gets a lot of use but for utilitarian purposes. I use a walking stick and it is a Cold Steel Irish Blackthorne. It would be an effective weapon assuming I really knew how to use it. I actually don’t but could probably improvise.
I do have a few high quality assisted opening knives, all bought on clearance. I can open them fairly easily but not like those who are good with them. The main reason is arthritis in my knuckles.
Using some lubricant made for fishing reels applied to the pivot also helps overcome the resistance on a spring-assisted knife as well.
I do this with all of my folders.
My EDC SD knife is a Spyderco Civilian, legal in most of California.
