Jim Wright, a driven Texas Democrat who rose to the pinnacle of congressional power before ethics charges forced his resignation as speaker of the House in 1989, died on Wednesday in Fort Worth. He was 92.

CBS radio nearly did. After we were told that Wright was ousted partly due to the efforts of congressman Newt Gingrich, we were told that Gingrich himself left office nearly a decade later with ethics problems of his own. Pretty gratuitous reference there.
Too bad it took so long.
