For the last three years, [Louis K. Campbell] has regularly locked up speeders. Those who have been stopped by a trooper and sent on their way with a ticket might be interested to know that under Virginia law they can--though it's unusual--go to jail for 12 months and be fined $2,500 for speeding offenses that constitute reckless driving. Any speed higher than 80 mph and, generally, anything more than 20 mph over the speed limit is considered reckless.
Drivers clocked in the high 80s in a 65 mph zone usually receive up to six days in jail from Campbell. Above 90, jail time is normally a foregone conclusion...
Welcome to my world ...
“Campbell is not without compassion. In an unusual case Wednesday, he suspended jail time in favor of community service for a man who was going 92 mph. The man had a clean record for more than 20 years, cooperated with the officer, went to driver improvement school before appearing in court”
