This would likely mean that if the knife had a thumb stud, thumb plate or a “bird’s eye” to assist in opening, it would be illegal.

According to the article the law defines a switchblade as a knife with “a blade that opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring, or other device in the handle of the knife.”

In all of the assisted opening knives I have seen the thumb stud, wave or bird’s eye is NOT in the handle.
