I'm sure you meant "democracy" in the broader sense of the word, where the people have the power to elect their representatives. Every major dictionary has that meaning as one of the accepted definitions "democracy".
Yet when it's used in a discussion here on FR, some people get all worked up. Some even try to belittle the poster.
SNP sounds great, then. /sarcasm
Both are democracies.
Give me an example of a “Democracy”, of a “Republic”? Just MAYBE YOU need to do some more studying.
Nah, you’re just an ass. See, I figured you right out.
I'm sure you meant to say.... it's still NOT the best way to run a country.
You don’t remember the quote from Churchill? Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.
Full quote: “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.” 11/11/1947
They’re to the left of Labour - Labour failed to stand up for Scotland and got slaughtered.
Scotland and England are like different countries which is true today.
You do understand that our American form of government is NOT a democracy and hopefully you understand why this forum is called Free Republic, do you understand that Churchill was not right about everything, while a democracy might be good for him the reality is a democracy is not better (merely a veneer) or worse than any Dictator government, for instants how do you think the islamists are able to achieve near 25% of the U.K. parliament, they use democracy (majority rules).
Now the U.S. has wandered from our Republic form of gov’t, but when Cruz wins POTUS he vows restore our Constitutional Free Republic.
Technically, we are a Constitutional Republic.
“Technically, we are a Constitutional Republic.”
Which is a form of democracy.
I suppose we could be called a representative democracy, but a direct Democracy we are not.
Yeah, Nationalists who want to join the EU, some “Nationalists”.
“I suppose we could be called a representative democracy, but a direct Democracy we are not.”
We are a form of representative democracy more narrowly described as a constitutional republic.
