Exactly. That's the trojan horse in Christie's answer. "We have to figure out the man-made part". As you point out, it's small and almost impossible to quantify. The first returns from the CO2 measuring satellite had some higher concentrations in places with no human presence. So Mother Nature is depositing at least as much as China. We're trying to find "The US portion of the man-made portion of one greenhouse gas that's dwarfed by water vapor whose increase effect is logarithmic...". By the time you get through that exercise, then you have to convince us that it's bad. Then you have to convince us that limiting fossil fuels is the most effective and efficient solution.

For most Americans, I think the clincher was China surpassing us. If they're not doing anything about it we shouldn't either.
