Graham: GOP 'getting creamed with non-white voters'
The Hill ^ | 05/08/2015 | Mark Hensch

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) predicted Thursday Republicans will lose the 2016 presidential election without major immigration reform, saying the party is struggling to win minority voters.

“The only way we lose this election is if we beat ourselves and that is very possible, but we are getting creamed with non-white voters,” Graham, a likely 2016 presidential contender, told host Susan Page on USA Today’s “Capital Download.”

“We’ll lose,” he said, if the party doesn't improve its prospects with minorities.

“I mean, we’ve got a big hole we’ve dug with Hispanics,” he added. “We’ve gone from 44 percent of the Hispanic vote [in the 2004 presidential election] to 27 percent [in 2012]. “You’ll never convince me ... it’s not because of the immigration debate,” said Graham.

Graham said he was “98.6 percent sure” he would seek the Oval Office next year. If he does, the South Carolina lawmaker has made up his mind on immigration reform.

“If I were the president of the United States, I would veto any bill that did not have a pathway to citizenship,” Graham said.

“You would have a long, hard path to citizenship... but I want to create that path because I don’t like the idea of millions of people living in America for the rest of their lives being the hired help,” he added. “That’s not who we are.”

Graham also lashed out at Republicans who believe a secure border is necessary before tackling citizenship for illegal immigrants.

“That’s not practical,” Graham said of addressing the border before amnesty.

“No Democratic Congress is going to give the Republican Party everything we want on border security until you tell them what happens to the 11 million,” he added, referring to the estimated number of illegal immigrants.

Are Lindsey and Wendy sisters-in-law?

You remember Wendy wife of Phil, former director at Enron.

The feds are regularly flying in thousands of muslims from African and the mideast and setting them up in villages, towns and cities all over the nation with the entire assortmant of government handouts - welfare, medical care, subsidized housing, etc., etc.

And we can watch on TV as thousands of Mexicans, Guatemalans and others pour across the Rio Grande into Obama’s waiting arms.

What is Graham and the other establishment republicans in the senate doing about it?

Trying to give the illegals amnesty - that’s what.

He’s worried about losing 17% of 16% of the population, while it doesn’t even cross his mind that he’ll lose more from the 69% of the population that makes up his majority constituency.

At least 50% of hispanic citizens are just as opposed to amnesty and illegal aliens as any other citizen.

This is propaganda to suggest we need to abandon the rule of law and surrender the country to “win”.

No thanks, Lindsay.

Yeah, is he saying that because republicans don’t support robbing their fellow citizen,
that minorities won’t vote for them?

That’s saying that minorities only care about robbing people...

Lindsay Graham's comments are as bad as Romney's "47%", in making gross unproven assumptions based on the same prejudice. That is that there are no non-whites, poor people, or hispanics that would vote Republican unless they're pandered to.

They won't vote for the backstapping, elitist Republican mainstream. But I suspect many would vote for a clear, honest and straightforward constitutional conservative message.

This mental midget has no idea that Hispanic families are predominantly Catholic, have family problems like everyone else, and the Citizens among them are some of the first to lose their jobs to illegal immigrants. They fear crime, need to have the middle class expand not shrink, and are waiting for a man who will shoot straight with them.

Graham is a disgraceful human being.

Minorities can read a poofter like him from a mile away.

We don’t win minorities in part because we don’t explain how we’ll make their lives better. We won’t make them better by legalizing 30 million more competitors for the jobs they worked long and hard to obtain.

Curious how there is no concern in the same quarters that the Democrats are getting creamed with White voters.

Non-white voters only make up around 25-30% of the effective electorate, so it’s actually in the GOP’s interest to seek to appeal to white voters instead. Easier and more cost-per-vote effective.

Flame away if you wish...

Republicans get beat because we beat ourselves. The moment someone announces that they are running for office it is pile on.

And when we pile on we give all the ammunition we can to the other side.

Carly Fiorino announces - PILE ON. Jeb Bush announces - PILE ON. And we don’t just pile on privately - we pile on publicly with super critical letters to the editor, we accuse people of being RINO’s, and liberals in sheep clothing because they may oppose what we think at the moment.

We want ultra conservative, send them all back across the border, ban abortion and gay marriage candidates and if someone doesn’t fit into that mold then the hell with them is the attitude I see and obviously the majority of voters don’t think that way.

Lindsey probably has a valid argument - we have a bunch of rabid, anti immigration folks who make sure EVERYONE hears their comments. And everyone includes the press who then proceeds to paint all Republicans with the same brush.

So Obama got elected by keeping his mouth shut - he didn’t say what he believed, or what he would do. Democrats lined up behind him and supported him in lock step. Guess what? HE WON THE ELECTION —— TWICE by doing the same thing.

I don’t see a lot of democrats piling on Hillary Clinton and my guess is as we get closer to primary time the democrats will line up behind one candidate and that candidate will wipe the floor with the republican candidate who only has the support of part of a fractured party (Examples that I read here - I will vote for ANYONE except Romney or I will stay home before I go vote for Mitt - or even better - I don’t think I can hold my nose long enough to vote for McCain - see my point?)

Now go ahead and flame me but until Republicans and conservatives get smart about elections we will continue to lose and continue to have our candidates smeared by the press.

People need to just shut up for a change, keep their comments reasonably private, stop piling on and get behind a candidate that can WIN THE POPULAR VOTE for a change. In today’s world the sound bite and populist position wins the election.
