The Obama administration is injecting its open border agenda to the federal landmark that once served as the gateway for legal immigration with a new gallery blasting the militarization of the U.S.-Mexico border and the deportation of unauthorized immigrants.
Located in the New York Harbor and situated near the iconic Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and its structures are federally-owned landmarks operated by the National Park Service (NPS), which is part of the U.S. Department of the Interior. From 1892 to 1954 the island received and processed around 12 million immigrants, mostly Europeans fleeing war, religious persecution and famine. Among them were oppressed Jews from Eastern Europe and czarist Russia in search of a better life.
This was more than half a century ago. In the 1980s the building that served as the nations chief gateway was restored and subsequently reopened as the Ellis Island Immigration Museum, a symbol of this nations immigrant heritage, according to the U.S. government. The museum exhibits have for decades chronicled Ellis Islands role in immigration history and offered individual stories of brave men and women leaving their homeland to seek new opportunities in an unknown country. This includes a baggage room where belongings were inspected daily, a registry room where the new arrivals underwent medical and legal examinations and dormitories that were filled to capacity nightly with temporarily detained immigrants.
Soon this historical federal landmark will expand to tell the plight of illegal immigrants that annually cross into the U.S. through the Mexican border. The new section will be called Feet People and a mainstream newspaper recently got a glimpse of it. The Border Patrol began militarizing the 2,000-mile United States-Mexico border and deporting any unauthorized immigrants in 1993, the new Ellis Island Immigration Museum panel says. This fortification has pushed men, women and even children, who seek to cross on foot without documentation, even deeper into remote and dangerous terrain. They cross deserts and mountain ranges on foot and swim contaminated irrigation ditches. They crawl through sewer pipes and tunnels. To find work and reunite with family members, hundreds risk their lives every week to reach the United States.
The new gallery exhibit further explains that, until half century ago, when caps were imposed, Mexican workers had routinely crossed into the United States to fill agricultural, construction and service jobs because there were no immigration quotas on other independent nations in the Americas. Half a century ago there was no internet or computers and life-saving equipment such as seat belts and infant car seats didnt exist either. Nor does the U.S. government take in millions of European immigrants like it did from 1892 to 1954 via Ellis Island. The immigration policies of half a century ago dont necessarily serve in the nations best interest, which is why they have been changed.
The outrageous new pro-illegal immigrant exhibit was created by an Obama appointee whos married to one of the presidents foreign ambassadors. His name is Edwin Schlossberg and a few years ago Obama appointed him to Commission of Fine Arts. Schlossbergs wife, Caroline Kennedy, is Obamas ambassador to Japan. Schlossberg runs a lucrative company called ESI Design that creates interactive environments for learning and communicating. The firm claims to specialize in integrated experiential museums and recently created the software for an exhibit at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. The deceased Massachusetts senator, affectionately known as Ted, continues receiving posthumous honors from the Obama administration despite his scandal-plagued career which included letting his mistress drown after recklessly driving into a pond, renting a brothel for an entire night in Chile and meeting with communists.
Using government funds and government agencies for partisan purposes should be illegal.
Something else to be dismantled once Cruz is President.

If memory serves correct there were no Indians being forced to pay for a white men’s living at that time though...
My grandchildren have ancestors who came through Ellis Island...
This treasonous idiocy is a slap in the face to them and the rest of the 12 Million people who came here LEGALLY...
Two Amens.
Hey Obambi you sorry little Marxist Jackass! You couldn't care less about these third world refugees if you didn't think that they were too uneducated to understand what you are really about and will vote for your ilk just like they did in their home hell holes. KISS MY...
Well said, Nana.
Plus it took all those years to take in 12 million legal immigrants through Ellis Island and we now have that many or more illegal “feet people” here that crossed our southern border in a fraction of those years.
Mostly Europeans? Yes. But most were just looking for better jobs, not fleeing from war, persecution and famine. And Ellis Island wasn't just an acceptance point for immigration. Many were rejected for being ill or for their likelihood of becoming wards of the state and sent back home.
In 1892, immigrants weren’t handed Welfare, Food Stamps, Obamacare and free housing when they got off the boat. They worked and earned a living.
OH! By the way, did I mention that Progressivism / Marxism is the biggest Poncy Scheme ever perpetrated on Mankind in it’s entire history?
GOT AMMO?
Yeah, back then we only accepted people that were not inbred imbeciles or permanently stupid or had communicable deceases. What monsters we were! Oh yeah I almost forgot; We used to insist that they had some sort of skill that would make them a benefit to our society. How sick was that!

Reminds me of something Milton Friedman once said...’You can have open borders or you can have a welfare state but you can’t have both.’
That 12 million is only a fraction. Most immigrants did not come through Ellis Island. My ancestors didn’t. They apparently transferred from a big boat to a small boat and rowed up the river into PA.
Up through free market Coolidge there was no such thing as an “undocumented” or “illegal” immigrant. It was only in the late 20s with RINO Hoover that a law was passed to make it a mis-demeanor to enter the US without playing Mommy-May-I with the Feds. As with Smoot-Hawley, RINO Hoover had to placate factions of populist Republicans while moving toward big government. Big government in immigration was part of his Big government agenda.

+1
My Dad, his two brothers, and his parents came from Holland in 1912, and were processed through Ellis Island. My youngest son and I went to NY in the late 90’s, and took the ferry out to tour the site. Glad I had the chance to visit the place before it was tainted by Obama and his minions.
