Ted Cruz, Rand Paul Take Lead in Slamming Congress
NewsMax ^ | May 8, 2015 | Melanie Batley

Republican Party presidential candidates have long struck an anti-establishment, anti-government tone, but in the 2016 race for the White House, two senators running for the nomination are taking a particular interest in attacking Washington.

"Washington is broken. Trust me, I've seen it firsthand," Texas Sen. Ted Cruz often says, according to The New York Times.

Other times he says Washington is "profoundly broken" or "fundamentally broken."

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul launched his campaign on the slogan, "Defeat the Washington Machine."  He says Washington is "horribly broken."

In the past, lawmakers have touted their Washington experience as Bob Dole did in 1996 and Hillary Clinton did in 2008, but now they shirk it, the Times said.

"Mr. Cruz and Mr. Paul, in particular, have been running against Congress since they first ran for it," the Times said.

Dole told the Times, however, that 2016 may be the year that governors dominate presidential politics.

They have been equally vocal in their opposition to Washington.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who announced his candidacy on Tuesday, called Washington a "roach motel," and took a shot at the senators who have already thrown their hats into the ring.

"If you live off the government payroll and want to run for an office other than the one you're elected to, then have the integrity and decency to resign the one you don't want and pursue the one you decided you'd rather have."

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie took his own potshot, saying: "If I was in the Senate right now, I'd kill myself."

Like all politicians, watch what they do more than what they say:

Rand Paul: How Five Republicans Let Congress Keep Its Fraudulent Obamacare Subsidies.
Ted Cruz: Ted Cruz: Why I voted YES for Corker Iran bill

What about the allegations that Rand Paul aided and abetted Mitch mcConnell in the Senate ObamaCare Subsidies, as Paul is the junior senator from Kentucky. So to say Paul is against DC, is saying like Molasses flows like a river in January in Alaska or that Hell, MI has frozen over in May. i believe Paul is as much a conservative is that Obama is a Christian. They are both like teats on a boar pig, look good but serve no purpose!

Ted Cruz voted YES on the Iran Nuclear Treaty Deal after he Voted No in Cloture. So what is it No or is Yes.
Vote Cruz and America loses, should be the rallying cry. Cruz is no different, he is part of the DC establishment!

I am afraid that Rand would fundamentally transform America in a different bizarre sort of way. It would be a circus.

Go Ted!!!

You mean the Sen. Rand Paul who is blocking an investigation into which GOP weasels are working the system to keep off of Obamacare.

If Washington is broken, why not fix it instead of complaining? Get it done and take names later. Too easy to sit back and complain about it I guess.

Bingo. I’ve come to the conclusion that putting your faith in any politician, left or right, to “fix” everything that is “wrong with the country” will only lead to disappointment. The problem is power and the accumulation of power by the Federal Government.

Left or Right it does not matter. The government grows and grows year after year. Each year adding more laws of what you can or can’t do. Would the founders have imagined in such a short time that their creation would be so perverted and corrupted by the power hungry that the federal government would regulate the volume of water used in flushing a toilet?

How will it end? Likely poorly, as all bloated governments have ended throughout history. What can be done? Likely nothing. I know of no historical example where a corrupt and bloated government reformed itself.

Hopefully you forgot the "/s" and didn't actually lose your mind.

if it was meant as a slap at those who find every little thing to "disqualify" perfectly good candidates, it was well done (but needed the "/s")
