Autistic Girl Removed From Flight After Emergency Landing

(CBSNews) — An Oregon family traveling with a 15-year old autistic girl was kicked off a flight this week for what the airline calls a “disruptive” situation.

The family calls it an outrage.

Video shot by a fellow passenger and posted to YouTube showed Salt Lake City airport police removing the family from a United Airlines flight last Tuesday, after the pilot made an emergency landing.

The girl’s mother, Donna Beegle, was shocked when officers explained why.

“He said, ‘Well, the captain doesn’t feel comfortable flying to Portland with your daughter on his flight,” Beegle told CBS News.

The trouble began halfway through the flight from Houston to Portland. Beegle says her daughter, Juliette, was hungry and started to act up.

“I know her. When she gets over hungry or over thirsty, she really struggles,” Beegle described.

Her mother says Juliette is a picky eater, so she asked a flight attendant if she could purchase a hot meal from first class — and says she was told no.

“Well, I said, ‘How about we wait for her to have a meltdown and then she is crying and tries to scratch — and then you’ll want to help her,'” Beegle said she told the flight attendant.

Beegle eventually got the meal and said Juliette calmed down. Then came an announcement from the captain.

“We were shocked to hear them say, ‘We’re going to make an emergency landing in Salt Lake City, we have a passenger in the back of the plane who has behavior issues,'” Beegle said.

"an irritated male flight attendant who wants to hoard 1st class meals cry wolf"

By "hoard", do you mean keep them for the passengers who paid for them? Or was he going to take them home to his poodle?

Humblegunner...just reflect on how you are feeling about an autistic young 15 yr old girl. You may think you are “getting over” on me but your comments are reflective of how you feel about this disabled girl who needed a warm meal on a long flight to help calm her. You can high five yourself but the reality is that a 15 yr old Juliet with autism was pulled off a plane because her mom advocated for her special need. You can thump your chest and say “I won” but the reality is that Juliet is a real person that is going to need help her whole life

Are you call people "tards" I know you are desperate for attention and people to call you out because you are outrageous but I am sensing that you are hurting and want people to pray for you. So this is my heartfelt prayer for humblegunner.

Ephesians 4:25-6:24Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. ...

NO HAM SANDWICH!
My child will go into BEAST-MODE and freak out
if you do not BOW DOWN and ACCOMODATE!

Honestly, when did smacking a bad-acting child go out of style?

Probably along about the time all these new behavioral trends started.

Have you seen the video of this smug little.. critter?

I am sure that the pilot is getting ribbed because he brought down a full plane because a disabled kid was crying because she was hungry.

Oh she would have cried louder and scratched herself. Lets just divert a plane and bring on 15 1st responders to escort a young girl watching a movie.

Thanks for praying, but me, I’m good with the Lord
and while nice to see, your prayers are just “greeting cards”.

He & I talk most mornings and He didn’t mention you today.
He did laugh at Stumpcat though.

Stumpcat is pretty funny, he makes noises.

Thanks for caring.

? are you intimidated that conservative men actually go into impoverish/hurting communities and love the people and help them? Like I said...God is waiting for you to ask to turn your heart of stone to a heart of flesh

You do know that by being so concerned with disagreeing with my posts that it is the Holy Spirit moving you. Maybe just ask
God to show you His Truth.

a 15 yr old Juliet with autism was pulled off a plane because her mom advocated for her special need.

So.. a plane in flight is a really good place for her mom to "advocate" for her "special need"?

Instead of.. oh, lets say.. planning? Thinking ahead? Being responsible?

Stuff like that?

Oh, HELL no. Everyone needs to accommodate the princess.

Well screw that. Off the plane with the lot of you!

Plan better next time.

That “kid” wouldn’t have been crying if her mom had packed the kind of food she knew the “kid” liked, and the kind of food the mom hounded the crew for.

Looks like those tears are on mom.

Please read the accompanying 1st hand accounts before you make your decision. Diverting a plane and kicking a family off is not a simple decision. This is actually a very unusual/1st case and other pilots need to study and consider how they would react. This was not a terrorist threat....it was a mother’s request for a disabled child.

Sweetie, I talk to God all damned day.

He never brings up loony teenagers on airplanes.

I figure it can't be that big an issue.

If a kid gets upset and “..lashes out and scratches,” as her dad says, then I can understand that might be disruptive on a flight.

Yep, and when the mother starts handing out threats, it’s not going to go over well. At all.

I doubt that God is thrilled with you calling Juliett "Looney" Take a look at her sweet picture and still call her names.

The mother said "I asked if I can purchase something hot for my daughter and [the first class flight attendant] said no" she said. "I called him back over and I said to him, 'Please, help us out here,'" but he again refused. "He came back again and I said, 'I have a child with special needs, I need to get her something.' And he said, 'I can't do that,'" she explained. "I said, 'How about we wait for her to have a meltdown, she'll be crying and trying to scratch in frustration. I don't want her to get to that point.'"
