The increase in violence that has followed the death of Freddie Gray continued through the weekend, with four homicides reported since Saturday, according to Baltimore police.

Ten people were reported shot on Sunday alone, including three who were shot to death within a span of 39 minutes. The violence comes as the city prepares for the Preakness on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.

Ten people were also shot Thursday.

At least 87 people have been killed in Baltimore this year, 22 more than at this time last year. Nonfatal shootings are up nearly 50 percent across the city.

It's so bad, the horses will be wearing body armor.

I think this was the “old normal” for years; now it has a national spotlight on it...

That is exactly what happened in NJ after the “racial profiling” nonsense years ago; police “stood down” in terms of enforcing laws with blacks, and violent crime skyrocketed in the slums. It hasn’t slowed to this day...

Those murdered were probably murdered by other black people, so they don’t count.

Exactly; like public school teachers it is employment for life after you get a little seniority (since layoffs are last in/first out), and like teachers performance is meaningless - the raises keep coming. Also, few cops (or other government employees) have skills in demand in the private sector.

The only place cops are accountable is in the surrounding areas where those being protected are actually paying for it (and therefore demand results); the residents of the welfare hives don’t pay a red cent in taxes anyway, so they don’t get protection. My town, with plenty of property crime but little violent crime, has seen its cops really start earning their pay since Wal-Mart opened here a few years back. It is a magnet for thieves from Newark, and the cops may as well build a substation in the parking lot.

yes indeed, elections do have consequences

In Amerika, only the primaries have consequences. Elect an Establishment Republican and guess what? No consequences.

If I was a young man in this environment I would get out. I would leave tomorrow and never look back. I would never sign up for another government plan ever again and I would move on with my eyes open and grab opportunities as they came. Of course, ghetto talk won’t work and a positive attitude is absolutely required. This is a plan for self starter individuals and will work.

The Maryland Jockey Club reported attendance of 123,469 at last years 2014 Preakness Stakes. Hope they will announce the number this year.

What? Aren’t there “conflict resolution bodies” to stem the violence? Let’s allow them their experiment and grant them their cop-free zone. Because, science. Let the experimental group be Baltimore. Hell, all of Maryland east of Hagerstown to the Bay. Leave the eastern shore out of it. They aren’t the problem.

Lemme know how it works out. I look forward to reading the paper.
