Mountain Pact Campaign Targets Coal Companies Seeks compensation for global warming By: The Editors

Ten western mountain towns hit hard by climate change are launching a campaign against the coal industry, seeking hundreds of million of dollars in compensation per year to help their communities adapt, the Denver Post reported earlier this week.

In February, Outside covered how the nonprofit advocacy group Mountain Pact is rallying ski resort towns around the country to stem the effects of climate change. In a letter being sent this week to federal officials, lawmakers, and the White House, the towns—which include Aspen, Telluride, and Park City—demand a change in the federal government’s system of collecting royalties from coal companies, according to the Denver Post.

Affected towns must contend with the increasing expense of combating rising temperatures, inconsistent river flows, shrinking snowpack, and damaging wildfires brought about by climate change.

If man made climate change were real and we were serious about tackling it, the very first thing that would be shut down would be frivolous things like ski resorts. The are HUGE energy hogs. Actually, even without bogus climate change, we’d be better off shutting down these playgrounds for the idle and liberal rich.

In discovery for the lawsuit, the defendants need to request proof from the plaintiffs of what the historically correct temperatures should be. Perhaps their business model is based on utilizing an anomalous cold period?

They’ve done research on coal in America. Every ton for over 50 years past has kicked $.50 or $.35 depending on strip on underground. I think the underground fee has been reduced.

What is the marginal impact on burning a ton of coal on the GDP in the year of burning? In subsequent years (I just discovered that there are rail and OTM manufactured over 70 years ago still in daily use)?

There is a war on against carbon fuels, gas included. There are actually people who believe we’ll all benefit from strangling our power grid.

Looked up some stats on Telluride. Average annual snowfall over the last 30 years has been 277”.

2014 215”
2013 185”
2012 198”
2011 114”
2010 236”
2009 216”
2008 332”

That’s an average of 213”.

The joke is that miners should sue people who slide down hills on planks for shutting down mining towns—like Aspen (lead/silver) and Telluride (gold), to name a couple.
