Triple murderer put to death in Texas

Washington (AFP) - The state of Texas executed a man convicted in the triple murder of his girlfriend, her mother and her grandfather, officials said.

Derrick Charles, 32, was put to death by lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville at 6:36 pm (2236 GMT), according to spokesman Jason Clark.

His last words before being injected with the lethal drugs were "I'm ready to go home," Clark said.

The US Supreme Court earlier on Tuesday denied a last minute appeal by the condemned man, allowing the execution to proceed.

Charles was just 19 at the time of the murders, which anti-death penalty activists had hoped would be taken into account in appeals that sought to spare his life at trial.

Good riddance. These anti-death penalty people have soooo much compassion for this scum, but none for those whom he murdered. This guy got off easy.

The murdering criminals must have a death wish to kill in Texas.

Let me see, 19, then 32. Hey, a few more years and he would have died of old age. I still remember guy's names, that were on death row when I was at San Quentin in 1988. They are still there. I guess we just can not compare California to Texas, however.

:-)

Real justice takes so damn long. Damn shame. Wish we’d go back to the way it was. One or two weeks after the trial and conviction.

Thank you, but I did little compared to our ground grunts. Still, proud I served in some small way and will continue if you interpret my Tagline correctly.

“but unless with very good reason, cannot overturn a justly decided death penalty”

Iirc the only thing the guv can do is grant (1) 30-day reprieve. Everything else is in the hands of the Texas Board Of Pardons And Paroles.

"Killers are often narcissists and are incapable of understanding anything but death."

Mostly, however some benign torture techniques like water-boarding or sleep deprivation can make them "understand" there are worst things than death.

I’m for it. But people whine about waterboarding terrorists—imagine the outcry if we were to harm a “poor” murderer.

“. . .but unless with very good reason, cannot overturn a justly decided death penalty.”

The governor has no power over the death penalty. All he can do is request a one-time 30-day delay of the execution by asking the Board of Pardons and Parole to review the case.

That's it.

The Texas Governor has no power to commute or overturn the sentence.

He can't stop it.

The media, lazy and ignorant as they are, were after Bush over an execution he had no control over. None whatsoever.

Yes, you are correct. All because of this whole push for “self-esteem” over self-respect.

Well God does and will forgive murderers as well if they repent. Don’t kill others is the law however.

All have fallen short . . . Romans 3:23.

-snip-
Charles was arrested at a Houston motel where Brenda Bennett’s car was found. Police have said he told them he beat and strangled Obie Bennett. Myiesha Bennett was choked with an extension cord, beaten with a box containing stereo speakers and hit with a TV.

Brenda Bennett was thrown into a water-filled bathtub along with a plugged-in TV. When that failed to electrocute her, she was dragged through the house, raped and strangled.

Somehow, I don't think the former Derrick Dewayne Charles cared much for God's Grace and Salvation.

I LOVE that, thanks. If my better half would give the go ahead, we’d move there in a second flat.
