In some of their final pitches to voters, candidates seeking the Republican gubernatorial nomination are taking softer approaches on the television airwaves as Tuesday’s primary nears.
Agriculture Commissioner James Comer has tapped his wife, T.J. Comer, to stand in on his behalf in the latest ad after a tumultuous week of negative stories alleging he physically and mentally abused a college girlfriend.
The campaigning got so bad, that the Washington Post declared Kentucky’s primary the “nastiest race” of 2015.
In the ad T.J. says she knows, “James Comer as a loving father and proud father of three children.”
“You probably know James as our ag commissioner, where he saved taxpayer dollars, made government smaller and protected Kentucky jobs,” she says in the ad. “He’s a man led by his faith in God.”
Comer’s campaign emailed the ad to supporters with the headline: “I know Jamie.”
Meanwhile, Matt Bevin is again seeking to capitalize off of the primary infighting in his latest ad.
“Politics has become pretty nasty lately,” Bevin says to open his ad.
Bevin has blasted the campaign of Hal Heiner in recent weeks for “soiling the bed” of the GOP. His ammo comes from the two pro-Heiner PACs running negative ads against Bevin and Comer in the campaign.

If I had to make a prediction, I think Bevin will end up being the victor. He has run a very straight forward, disciplined campaign this time around vs. the clown he made of himself in the 2014 race, and he has snuck through the middle of Comer and Heiner. I wasn't even considering him before but I may end up voting for him on Tuesday.

I’m voting tomorrow, and will probably vote for Bevin. But, I wouldn’t be disappointed if Comer wins. At this point, I’m “anyone but Heiner”.
Sad thing is, I’ve voted for Hal in the past... He’s represented me on the City/County board. But, these negative ads have been disgusting. They smell like Mitch.
I agree with you that Bevin has run a better campaign this time. I thought he improved, from a horrible start, against McConnell. It’s a good sign when someone can learn that quickly.
