That simply isn't supportable, wharmy. The Axis was Germany, Japan, and Italy. The US and British defeated the German navy, the German excursion for oil in North Africa and the Middle East, and the German/Italian defense of the Italian peninsula. There wasn't a spit's worth of help on any of those from the Russians.
Meanwhile, with zero Russian help, the US kept the Japanese off the Russian pacific coast by engaging in total war against the Japanese throughout the Pacific.
Somehow, you've got it in your mind that the only front to WWII was Germany. In addition we gave Russia in today dollar equivalent about 200 billion in war materiel. (You also have to factor in the difference in compensation and technology would have lowered, for example, a bomber price from what it would be today. No 100,000 dollar toilets, for example.)
It was not the Russian navy that was making it possible for American shipping EVEN to deliver materiel to the Russians. It was not the Russian air force that bombed the industrial capacity of the Germans. It was not the Russian army in North Africa, the Middle East, Sicily, and Italy.
Hitler certainly made a mistake attaching Russia, but not because Russia was formidable, which it was, but it was a mistake because it meant Hitler was fighting then on multiple fronts.
Please note, Hitler attacked the Soviets in June of 1941. Had the US already been in the war, he never would have done so. From the ground entry into N. Africa in late 1942 to the end of the war in May of 45, the were only 2.5 short years.
The United States was the decisive military in WWII.
The war started in 1939, not 1941, and definitely in ‘39 America was isolationist.
And look how grateful the French have been to us ever since we saved their ass..
......................................
I would suggest you learn a little about the French people before you make such an outlandish statement.
Very well said.
The war started in 1939, not 1941, and definitely in 39 America was isolationist............................. And the German American Bund was still an active organization all the way to 42’, but most were rounded up and sent to internment camps in Texas. BTW, little known fact, we were building 4 engine Bombers for the Brits in CA. Their bombers, not B-17, or B-24s. The Brits were on the ropes, we rushed what we had available to them. It included 100 destroyers of WW I vintage, in exchange for a naval base in the south Atlantic. The war was a blessing for the Arsenal of Democracy. Mass production of equipment for everyone without the fear of 24/7 bombings.
I couldn’t agree more my FRiend, we were fighting on many fronts and were victorious.
