Were the other four employees interviewed? Are they cooperating?

Excellent question. There are many unanswered questions so far.

I'm all for running this guy through the wringer if he's ultimately responsible for what happened, but let's be objective and honest here. Any Freeper with half a brain would have to admit that retaining a lawyer in a case like this is a smart idea.

Never talk to the police is always the best advice you'll get right here on FreeRepublic.

In this particular case, the guy probably knew in an instant that he was going to be facing some serious legal trouble. That's no longer just an accident site there in Philadelphia. It's being treated as a crime scene.

Is 106 mph even allowed on a straight away?

Out of those employed on the train, wouldn’t ONE of them realize how fast they were going? 50 mph is quite a difference from 106 mph.

Just read that Federal Law limits speed to 79 MPH except for special stretches.

No. Iirc. The section from last stop to curve was 80

The curve was 50

They were only 11 out from last stop when they crashed. So train went from 0 to 106 in ten minutes.

The Northeast Corridor has its own speed limits. The FRA’s 79 mph speed limit for passenger trains does not apply to the Northeast Corridor. There are stretches with a speed limit of 150 on the corridor.

But (as I understand it) he not only lawyered up but has reportedly refused to answer questions. It is one thing to demand to have your lawyer present for questioning (surely a good idea); it is another thing to refuse to answer questions.

The media will not be asking those questions since one of their own is the cause of the killing. When a leftist does something wrong, the news media protects by ignoring the obvious questions that need answers.

How are you...long time.

Sure makes you wonder what's happening on this one. Was this a failed suicide?? Almost looks like it.

“It is one thing to demand to have your lawyer present for questioning (surely a good idea); it is another thing to refuse to answer questions.”

I think that the NTSB has allowed him a little time to “recover” before any questioning. Common sense says that the officials don’t want to do anything that could later be used against them by the engineer for not “respecting” his situation right after the accident. Trying to talk to him too soon and he could claim to have been intimidated.

True. Not answering questions brings the 5 Amendment into play.

Hanging in there. Rest time.

That’s one possibility.

Am more apt to think he was texting. Or talking on phone and/OR not paying attention to his job.

0 to 106 in ten minutes. That’s more than just peddle to the metal. Some one said it was a dial similar to front of stove. think of turning it up on hi , getting busy and not noticing until the peas start burning. Only this Time it was the entire POD

It also give them time to get his lab results and phone records. Not to mentiin do a complete background check.

Also time to interview his team on board the train. Get all of their stories before questiining him
