Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel married his partner Gauthier Destenay on Friday, becoming the first European Union leader to enter a gay marriage.
Teri Schultz tells our Newscast unit that Bettel becomes the second world leader to do so. Iceland's Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir married her partner five years ago.
The interesting part about this development is that gay marriage is a relatively new thing in Luxembourg. As The Guardian reports, Bettel's party won a prominent spot in the ruling coalition after campaigning for same-sex marriage
The Guardian adds:
"[Same-sex marriage] was previously knocked down in 2007 by the then ruling Christian People's party, but a poll in 2013 found 83% of Luxembourgers supported a change in the law.
"Little is known about Destenay, who works for the Belgian-Luxembourger architecture firm A3. He has appeared alongside Bettel at a number of official events, including the royal wedding of Prince Guillaume and Princess Stéphanie in 2012.
"What is known is that it was Destenay who proposed, reportedly asking for Bettel's hand just weeks after Luxembourg's parliament last July became the ninth EU legislature to lift a ban on gay marriages."
The BBC adds:
"Former Belgian Prime Minister Elio di Rupo was the EU's first openly gay national leader.
"The Luxembourg newly-weds are not expected to go away on a honeymoon, as the PM has to attend an economic forum in Kazakhstan, according to AFP news agency.
"A friend of the couple told the French news agency Mr Bettel was keen to keep his private life out of the public spotlight."
Lots of Lux, Mr. Bettel!
So much for that.
Isn’t it interesting that the extreme minority deviants run for such high office and then claim to “represent the people”?
Or is Minority Rule the new Civil Right?
Isn’t that touching? Luxembourgers get to be the first people ruled by an avowed fag. Not since Edward II ...
They are both play countries, insulated from the real world.
Same sex relationships have been going on since early times, but only today does it seem urgent for that group to change the definition of marriage. Not just happy with civil unions, but demanding marriage. Who are they trying to convince that they are right? Themselves, others or God? Mankind can rant and scream and rage and throw major hissy fits, but God is God and we do NOT control Him!
And yet Belgium wields enormous power over the rest of Europe.
What a shame-—I have stayed there for weeks-—it is a shame that Afghani Ethics have infiltrated the Faith and Reason (Natural Laws) of Western Civilization for paganism again and regression back to Nero’s times.
Once Christian Ethics was the hallmark in Europe until the French Revolution which created the “Temple of “Reason” at Notre Dame, but in actuality, it ejected Reason and inserted irrational Marxism—radical egalitarianism— to eject Science and Reason (Natural Law) so man could be made god and dictate Good and Evil and kill and mutilate the useless eaters.
We all know how that works out for mankind, when Man becomes god. History repeats itself, with such ignorant people who refuse to study history and Truth, when base instincts eject Science (Reason) and tribal minds take over the State and force their religion on the masses (Satanism)
The Belgian government and Belgian electorate have no special direct power as a result.
Ugh....
Country of my ancestors.....
I would renounce, but then it occurs to me that with America no better, that I should focus on being “In this world, but not of this world.”
May the Muslims take you, which they will.
It is even more of a minority than most people realize. The portion of the Homosexual population that wants to be married is probably 2% of the total. The Total Homosexual population is around 2% of the Normal population.
It's 2% of 2%, which makes it an exceedingly small minority indeed.
It’s not urgent for the groups, it’s urgent for the marketers who control the media. There’s money to be made.
“So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.”
As Kipling says. http://www.kiplingsociety.co.uk/poems_copybook.htm
And I missed the ceremony, how sad :(
HOORAY. What a milestone to celebrate.
