Maybe in the direction of travel, but at double the speed, it “stays” in a location 1/2 the time. So a stationary person throwing something might have a better chance at hitting the slower lead car.

Think about a train covering all tracks at the speed of light.

You WILL hit something if it’s in the air in your path. Much more often than if you were going 53 mph.
