I’m not a Catholic, so have not followed this as closely as I could have, but, is there a good explanation as to why “the rottweiler” Pope stepped down and this seemingly liberation-theology-believing guy was put in as Pope?

I am not Catholic either, so I can’t answer that question very well.

All I can say is that I recall that there is or was some sort of controversy with Pope Benedict’s stepping down.

This guy though, who I do not even want to refer to as Pope, is just awful.

My theory is that it’s simply the “god business” trying to appeal to apostates. The Catholic Church needs more revenue, so they’ve put in a guy who will sell indulgences.

Every now and then we who are Catholics need some punishment for our sins: John XXIII, Paul VI and now Francis each come immediately to mind.

The good news? He is 78 years old and admits that his health will not allow him a lengthy papacy. The next conclave won't repeat this mistake.

I would suspect that like the American political fiasco, when one party can't accomplish what needs to be done, another gets in...

For example: Daddy Bush was the one behind Nafta...There's no way Bush could have sold Nafta to the Democrat leaders nor the unions...And although Clinton was against Nafta, he got in and strong-armed the Democrat representatives in congress to go for Nafta...

We needed Bush for the wars in the Mid-East but there's no way a Republican would have tried to push thru the agenda which Obama is steam rolling in...They work closely together as we can see by the votes in Congress...

I suspect the same thing happened with their popes...There's no way pope Benny could have pulled this stuff off...They needed someone new to for their agenda to 'bloom'...
