A unanimous Supreme Court says the government can't prevent a convicted felon who is barred from possessing firearms from trying to sell his guns after they are confiscated by authorities.
The justices ruled Monday in favor of Tony Henderson, a former U.S. Border Patrol agent arrested and charged with distributing marijuana. He had turned over his collection of 19 firearms to the FBI as a condition of his release.
After pleading guilty, Henderson wanted to sell the weapons to a friend or transfer them to his wife. But lower courts said allowing him to sell them would technically give Henderson possession in violation of the law.
The high court said letting a convicted felon transfer possession is permitted as long as the felon has no control over the weapons.

This guy sounds like a perfect example of the idiocy of banning “felons” from owning weapons.
He’s clearly not a threat.
The government will eventually get around to declare breathing a felony.
I am fully in favor of banning felons from owning or using firearms.
Do not commit felonies.
If you have an issue as to what might define a particular felony - then deal with that directly.
Separating some judicial sanction from property rights is a good thing.
Rapists, Murderers, armed robbers etc should be locked up for a long time if not for good. Any man too dangerous to own a weapon is a man too dangerous to walk free.
bump
That seems fair. If they were used in committing the crime that would be different.
“Reasonable” gun control is for the reasonably stupid.
How dictatorial or you. What other God given rights do you advocate stripping people of according to your/governments arbitrary declarations?
They are not changing the law about felons owning firearms. It is about whether they can sell their firearms in order to comply or if the government can just grab them without compensation.
Bump!
Logic: The government is just another entity, like a business or a person. Because you are no longer allowed to own something doesn’t automatically make it theirs. We still have the right to choose the method of disposal of our own property.
The ruling against the border patrol agent didn’t say he couldn’t get the benefit of his own property... just that he couldn’t own it anymore.
He was a drug dealer and worse a drug dealer while a member of the US border patrol.
Maybe You were probably being sarcastic.
I am fully in favor of banning felons from owning or using firearms.”
I am fully in favor of BANNING KNOWN LIAR’S From the right to speak freely??
Kinda the same thing right??
SIG HEIL!
If someone is so much of a threat such that he can’t be allowed to own self-defense tools,
then what is he doing out of prison?
That's pretty scary right there.
No I’m not being sarcastic.
I’m being consistent.
Exactly my point.
There’s probably a lot of felonies that I would agree with you that the gun ban should not apply.
But violent felonies and drug dealing should have the ban. Drug dealing demonstrates a significant disregard for other human life.
