Interestingly it is the left leaning 'Center for American Progress', the classic Obama think tank, that produced this report.

When the conservatives have the majority we will have a chance to make a change.....

OH, wait, we have that. What will get? A very terse email.

WTF? Who do they work for the people, or the Lobbyist?

I think I know.

They would want the FBI or Homeland Security harassing gun owners.

and merged into the FBI

They should be FIRED and have NOTHING to do with any aspect of enforcing US law.

Further, ALL the former responsibilities of the BATFE should simply be DISCONTINUED.

People who burn down churches full of KIDS shouldn't be in the public sector:

They should be in JAIL.

“ATF has regulated the firearms industry for decades,” he said. “It would be very disruptive and costly to our industry to have to begin dealing with a new, unfamiliar regulatory agency.”

Too frigging bad. I don't care how long they have been in charge. They need to cope.

ATF should be the name of a convenience store, not a government agency.

One of two three government agencies that should be shuttered in seven days of a new administration.

1. Department of Education
2. EPA
3. BATFE (ATF) (BATF) whatever the - it’s called these days

There are probably four or five others.

Seven days, bye bye...

Why do we need a federal agency to do what any police department can do?

If that’s a problem, the FBI can step in.

I’m sorry folks, but I also think Homeland Security is extremely problematic.

Lop off this agency or cut it by 95%, and allow the agency to simply set up guidelines for local airports authority to operate by.

Do inspections and make sure to get compliance. Other than that, the HS could go too.

I also think that the people at the airports should have to pass a much more rigorous professional testing.

Every time I go in to an airport I swear I’ve seem some of those folks at McDonald’s or Taco Bell the week before.

Raise standards. Pay them better. Knock off the granny checks. Knock off the pat downs of people based on whether they are attractive or not.

My former wife used to get checked far more than I did. She was attractive and there was nothing else to attribute it to. And when she was pulled aside, I was forbidden to stay anywhere near her to help protect her from them. If I didn’t leave I could be arrested.

Folks, that isn’t right. At least one family member should be able to observe anything taking place. In fact you should be able to video what is taking place if you want.

These people should not be above review.

The ATF should be privatized, then turned into a chain of convenience stores - “I’ll have a pack of Luckies, a quart of Jim Beam, and a box of .22 longs. I’ll pay cash.”

Once the concept proves successful, they can fold in the DEA and sell blunts and brownies.

Just a suggestion...

if the purpose of eliminating ATF is because it is allegedly too weak or ineffective at gun control, I must respectfully dissent on basic constitutional grounds...
(gun control, no matter how well-intentioned, being an illegitmate governmental activity in the first place in the USA....
‘the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,’ US Constitution)

They should at least be substantially scaled back.
Only do what it says in their original charter.
No growing or expanding operations into other things.
No writing their own legislation.
ONLY deal with illegal trafficking.
No hassling legal uses, users or vendors.
With that limitation, they could be a branch of FBI.

For all other department also: No writing their own legislation or grabbing for more power.

“come on Man....” who will buy all those extra long tables that they tote around with special trailers to show off all those legal firearms that they just confiscated?

Who will educate all the first year “journalist” about the danger of unloaded firearm?

Who will help the media editors on their headlines?

The BATFEMOUSE have had this critical role for many years.

As an FFL and a gun enthusiast, I can support a weak ATF. I don’t mind that they’re ineffective and disorganized. In fact, I would resist any effort to make them more efficient.
