The pharmacist at our local Walgreen's told me that they favor locations near Walmart for new stores. People will look at the mammoth parking lot, see the Walgreen's next door or across the street and make a decision to bail.

Walgreen's can't compete on price or selection, but they kick @$$ on service and convenience.

If there are three or more people in line, they open another register. The pharmacist also doesn't care if we pay for our milk, cereal, photo prints, shampoo and batteries at the pharmacy.

I am in a town of 14k. Walgreens opened a store here about a decade ago.

When I go in, usually during the morning to pick up prescriptions, the store personnel outnumber customers by about 5 to 1.

Their prices on general merchandise is too high, considering their local competition is 3 dollar stores and a Walmart Supercenter.
