Scott Walker: I didn’t flip-flop on immigration
Washington Times ^ | 05/20/2015 | By David Sherfinski

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said earlier this year that his view has changed on immigration, but he says a flip-flop would be someone who voted a certain way and then did something different.

“Years ago, when I was asked more than about a decade ago when I was a county official about something and giving a quick momentary reaction to that versus in a comment a few years ago as a governor asking a question about it versus actually looking at this issue and saying what is my policy,” he told Fox News’ Bret Baier. “A flip would be someone who voted on something and did something different. … I don’t have any impact on immigration as a governor; I don’t have any impact as a former county official.”

Asked by the Wausau Daily Herald in 2013 whether he could see a world where people who take the right steps and pay penalties could get citizenship, Mr. Walker said, “Sure, yes. I mean, I think it makes sense.” As Milwaukee county executive in 2006, he also signed a resolution calling Congress to pass a broad immigration plan that many critics slammed as amnesty.

Mr. Walker, who has criticized Obama’s handling of the issue and opposes what he calls amnesty, said he would have an impact on the issue if he were to run for president and ultimately win, and that he’s talked to border state governors, members of the House and Senate, and people who care about the issue all across the country.

“[What’s] clear to me is we’re a nation of immigrants; I love the people who’ve come here from other places around the world — they want to live the American Dream, that’s great,” he said. “But we have a broken system today that needs to be fixed,

The latest sad spin statement by someone who could have been a great candidate for Governor if he wouldn't try to pander so much and simply stuck to principled conservative policy positions!

Gobbledygook. Still no answer about immigration and what "he would do" as POTUS.

Give us a straight YES/NO answer Walker!!

Any immigration plan that doesn’t start with, “before we proceed, the border must be 100% secure” is an amnesty plan.

And the candidate that steps up and says that first is my choice for President, with the exception of Ted Cruz who already said no amnesty, period.

I think many have changed their views on immigration in recent years.

I don’t think RR would sign the Simpson-Mazzoli Act into law these days.

The system is only “broken” because for over 25 years we have had administrations that ignored the illegal aliens pouring across the border.

You win, and Walker loses!

” “[What’s] clear to me is we’re a nation of immigrants; I love the people who’ve come here from other places around the world — they want to live the American Dream, that’s great,” he said. “But we have a broken system today that needs to be fixed,””

THIs is left wing CRAP!

Wow.

Disqualifying.

You can flip flop, state excellent reasons, and possibly get away with it. Fine. That’s politics and reality.

Denying fact is disqualifying.

If Walker will flat out lie to you about illegal immigration, what won’t he lie to you about?

Government has become an irresistible magnet for liars, BS’ers and frauds.

They just lie straight faced as they wink and smile at the cameras. It’s Idiotocracy.

And the cup drooling public eats it up.

We call it “Battered Voter Syndrome”. They keep getting robbed, beaten, lied to and gang banged, but keep coming back for more and more.

I’ve reeled in bass that have flip flopped less than Walker does. He can’t seem to speak coherently on the subject of immigration at all.

After he caught a lot of flak from his comment during a private meeting back in March where he again talked about a $100 fine and a path to citizenship, he now wants us to believe that he really thinks they should go back home first. March is not decades ago.

Now he really isn’t decisive on where he stands on the Patriot Act. Seriously? Why are people supporting him when they have no idea what he would do as President?? How can a candidate be caught flat footed so many times on such obviously important issues?

Scott Walker distanced himself from House Republicans debating a new immigration bill by endorsing a path to citizenship for immigrant workers. Walker acknowledged that a substantial number of Wisconsin farms depend on migrant workers, some of them here illegally. He also was sharply critical of how difficult the federal government makes it for those workers to come to this country.

“If people want to come here and work hard and benefit, I don’t care whether they come from Mexico or Ireland or Germany or Canada or South Africa or anywhere else,” he said. “I want them here.”

The Democratic-led U.S. Senate passed an immigration bill last week that features a path to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants already in the U.S. Many conservative House Republicans oppose the bill, viewing it as rewarding law-breakers.

“Not only do they need to fix things for people already here, or find some way to do it, there’s got to be a larger way to fix the system in the first place,” he said. “Because if it wasn’t so cumbersome, if there wasn’t such a long wait, if it wasn’t so difficult to get in, we wouldn’t have the other problems that we have (with people living here illegally),” he said. Walker’s stance on immigration reform evolved over the years.
