Bobby Jindal signs 'religious freedom' order protecting same-sex marriage opponents

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal issued new protections for businesses that refuse to serve same-sex marriages, embracing the "religious freedom" cause dear to conservative Christians even though it's stung other Republican politicians.

Jindal, a prospect for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, issued an executive order on Tuesday after saying he was disappointed that a Statehouse committee had earlier in the day voted down a bill that would have accomplished the same goal.

That panel's concern: that Louisiana would look much like Indiana, where concerns that a new "religious freedom" law would lead to discrimination against gays and lesbians triggered such a massive business backlash that it effectively ended the presidential prospects of another dark horse 2016 contender, GOP Gov. Mike Pence.

"We don't support discrimination in Louisiana and we do support religious liberty," Jindal said in a statement. "These two values can be upheld at the same time."

"Indeed, we celebrate diversity of belief in Louisiana. Diversity of belief and religious liberty are the foundation of our law and Constitution and they should be protected," he said. "As long as I'm governor, we will fight to protect religious liberty and not apologize for it."

Watch for the GAYstapo to have a hissy fit, launch a boycott of Louisiana and all that other stuff. If Jindal can stand up to it, his stock will rise. If he folds to the hissy fit like Pence, then it will drop.

I'm betting on the former.

I like Bobby Jindal on a lot of counts. He is VERY PRO 2nd Amendment, and

Very AGAINST Common Core and Illegal Aliens.

He is 100% Conservative and VERY smart!

He has already stood up to the hissy fitters. He declared he supported the Religious Freedom Bill that was making its way through the La. Legislature and said he would sign it. When the legislators got cold feet and defeated it yesterday, he issued an E.O. on his own. For me, that’s guts!

Good point, and Jindal has already proven he can take the heat in a highly charged political fight. He caught a ton of heat for calling out the Europeans and their implementation of “no-go zones” for Muslims in a speech he did in London earlier this year. As far as I know he didn’t take back or retract any of his statements regarding it. He’s gonna be a major player in the GOP nomination fight.

Gov. Jindal will receive strong support for this action from Ted Cruz similar to the statement issued praising Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana. Unfortunately, Pence caved on the issue soon after Cruz issued the press release, but I fully expect Bobby Jindal will keep his resolve.

This is a futile move.

If the federal courts can sweep away state constitutional amendments with a wave of their fairy wands, they can invalidate such an executive order - and will.

Much better, imperative, in fact, to start planning.... “to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them....”

You could very well be right.

If federal courts rule that religious beliefs can no longer guarantee freedom of association then we will have neither religious liberty nor the freedom of association and the Bill of Rights will be a dead letter.

Once the progressives have delivered the coup de grace to the Constitution - which they have been busily dismantling since the 1930’s - all bets are off.

This was either a poorly worded statement by Mr. Jindal, or it was explicit pandering to the sodomites. Just as discrimination against murderers, rapists, and kidnappers is justified and necessary, so too is discrimination against the sodomites and self-mutilators. The Bible says what it says for a reason.

Yeah that’s one thing I like about my state. I got a badass governor. Another cool thing is that by the libs own logic (or lack thereof) its impossible for him to be a racist since he’s not white.
