I believe the CT monsters are still technically sentenced to death, though it is highly unlikely they will ever be executed - the last two executions in Connecticut took place in 1960 and 2005 (the 2005 execution was for murders that took place in 1981-1984).
The CT legislature passed a bill to abolish the death penalty in 2009, but the (Republican) governor vetoed it, citing the Cheshire murderers. The legislature passed another bill to abolish the death penalty in 2011, which the (Democrat) governor signed, but the bill applies only to future sentences, not those currently on death row.
