I work on a military post (Ft. Polk, La,) and talk with GIs all the time. I believe you’re way off the mark here. I got a lot of soldier buddies and have talked to them about just this topic. Guys I’ve known for a long time. Your comparison of them to the schutzstaffel is way out of line. And they don’t need the armory unlocked. These guys got legally owned firepower in their homes you would not believe.
Seriously, these guys got FNP-90s, FALs, KSGs, ARs, AKs, Saiga 12s, M14s, man these guys got some toys. One guy at the rifle range one day even had an automatic Thompson M1a. Those are badass.
