josh was 12 years old at the time. the family did not try and cover up what had happened in fact they were the one to bring it forward to the authorities. it seems to me that this is a nonscandal scandal. if josh had been one or two years older when this took place and if it had been more then fondling I would be not as kind. I remember when I was 12 trying to catch a glimpse of my sister and her friend changing in the bathroom. that was wrong but it was only the action of a child. what josh did was worse but it does not mean he is a pedophile it only means that he was a immature kid discovering his sexuality very inappropriately.
I am pretty sure that the learning channel knew about this and that it is only because it is public now that they are getting rid of the programing.

Unbelievable hubris in getting him a gig with the Family Research Council, of all groups, in Washington, D.C. Did Jim Bob really think this would stay under wraps forever?

Great point. A used car salesman is a smaller target than the Executive Director of the FRC who goes about having his picture taken with high profile members of the GOP. Seems they were arrogant in thinking they could keep this under wraps forever.

yes, raping kids and gluttony are completely equivalent.

There is no difference in God's eyes. You are a mere mortal, and will never understand, mostly because you refuse to. But that's ok. You WILL see someday.

I wonder if there is a difference in the eyes of young children who were raped and those who weren’t?

this will be what big families and Christians are all about according to the destroyers of the fabric of American society.

Up until yesterday the dominant party line on FR was that this was; an old story/no big deal/made up by the media/ nothing to it/hatin' on wholesome Christians, etc. You can see this on Dugger threads prior to yesterday. Anybody who thought there was something weird or creepy about this group got shouted down.

Now it's turned 180. Why? Because people never really liked the size of the family or didn't really like their beliefs? I don't think so.

Reconciliation doesn’t involve bringing him BACK into the family to do it again while there are still multitudes of potential victims in the house. Whatever you feel about forgiveness and grace, the common sense action at that point should have been Josh going to live with his (still living) grandparents. Or some other relative with no small children present.

As I’ve said. Unless the family installed cameras all through the house, they have no idea what he was doing. They had fourteen OTHER children to pay attention to at that point. Moreover there’s no indication that anyone else was made aware of his predilections to keep OTHER small children away from him.

Recidivism with pedophiles is nearly universal. Regardless of whether you ‘forgive’ them or not. One of the hallmarks of that particular personality trait is untruthfulness. So even if he says ‘I prayed about it, received forgiveness from God and am no longer attracted to 4yr old girls’, you have no way of knowing if they’re telling the truth or not.

And common sense would dictate you keep such people FAR FAR away from other children. For the children’s safety and the sanity of the perp. Making a pedo be around other small children day in and day out w/o re-offending is no different than asking a recovered alcoholic to tend bar. It’s unfair to the perp as well.

And, given his statement, I see absolutely no contrition for what he did to his sisters. I see only concern about ruining HIS future. THAT is the most disturbing part of all of this. His statement is absolutely pathological in that regard.

God may have forgiven him, but the good people of Arkansas might have other ideas.

And that's fine. The legal system is well within its rights to hold him accountable for his actions. But, we cannot stand in judgment on who is and is not worthy of God's grace. To do so places us on an equal footing with God and guilty of unthinkable hubris.

No one is excusing this young man, but what he did was done when he was 14!

Granted, he was 14, but how many 14 year olds have a mind that wanders to "yeah, I'd like to grope my sisters while they're sleeping?" This wasn't like some kid copping a feel at summer camp. These were his sisters -- one of whom was friggin' FOUR YEARS OLD. He may have been reconciled to God, but his total sum of counseling and therapy was apparently three months of refurbishing a property. Spiritual healing is wonderful, and often miraculous, but I'm just going to say it would be a lot more believable if they were upfront. No one told them to put their lives on TV. Now it just seems like they were cynical exploiting their damaged daughters for filthy cash.

I’m confident that my actions and thoughts won’t be too much concern for me in the afterlife.

I wonder if Mr. Duggars is feeling the same way?

Where did you get your info? I read it would be secure assault in the second degree, which has a three year statute of limitations.

“He was a child.”

14 year olds can and are tried as an adult.

Of course there is, and it will remain as long as they remain in the sin they were born into. Once they find God, however, their eyes are opened to a whole other world that can never be experienced by those that choose to remain in sin.

Were you lusting after the girls in your classrooms?

Of course - I was a 14-year-old boy.

Then according to the Bible, you were just as wrong as Duggar was in what he did.

If that is the case, according to the Bible, then the Bible is wrong.

And they won't be, so long as you have repented and received God's grace. But I suspect you are in for a big surprise, judging by your questions and statements here.
