Their reactions would probably have been different, if the offense was more serious. By more serious, I am not saying that what he did wasn’t serious.
He was counseled by his father as to the path he was on, if he persisted in his sin, and he appeared to have repented and quit doing that.
For me, that’s the issue. Many people, too many people, have sexual desires they should not have, but they don’t act on them. By all reckoning, he has appeared to quit acting on them.
There needs to be some consideration for that he simply needed to mature.
As I said on another thread on this topic, I’m certainly no fan of Oprah but in this case, she seemed to have done the right thing by cancelling their appearance on her show and forwarding the email to the authorities for further investigation. To her credit, she could have had them on and then pulled a Jerry Springer style – “Gotcha”.
