Interestingly, back in the 1600s, my ancestor Pierre changed his name to Peter when he immigrated to British North America. His brother Jacques, changed his name to James. And all their children had anglicized names.

Likewise my great grandfather who was baptized Karl/Carl in the Rheinland, but when he came to the USA at age 3, he eventually chose to be called Charles or Charlie.
