in 1993 the US had a trade surplus with Mexico of $1.6 billion. IN 2014 we ran a $60 billion deficit. 20 years of NAFTA.

Isn't this because of the maquiladoras? ... in which case it is not a valid comparison.

Why would this be of no consequence?

But, it's not the case. US Firms manufacturing in Mexico and immediately shipping back to the US...DO NOT count in the current account deficit.

Even though it's a practice that is draining the country of capital and jobs.
