The one problem is the U.S. long-standing two-state solution [pre-dates Obama], on which, the USA and Israel disagree. Either we must change or Israel must change.

Bush was caught flat-footed when Hamas won the election in Gaza. Obviously he knew nothing about the situation on the ground except what his advisers told him. So which adviser did he listen to?

Try not to make it extra complicated. The Obamaroids in DC can yap about two-state stuff to no consequence. Israel has to live with what they got——and they will. The Palis can call themselves whatthebleepever they want to be and as long as they mind their manners they won’t lose what they have left. One more snivelfest rocketparty out of them and they can kiss the rest of Gaza goodbye. Getting their butz kicked up between their shoulder blades is the one thing they understand clearly.

Israeli government has always accepted a two-state solution, at least since it was proposed after the ‘67 war when it was made clear Egypt and Jordan didn’t want Gaza and the West Bank back.

Avigdor Lieberman, leading Israeli skeptic of the two-state solution, was left out of the current Israeli government.
