Simplistically, Shia are Iran and Sunni are Saudi Arabia. Some Saudi Sunni's are of the more orthodox Wahabbi. ISIL/ISIS leadership seems to be survivor Bathists from Saddam Hussein's old regime, which seemingly leaned toward Sunni. Saudi Arabia and Iran are both scared of ISIL/ISIS. ISIL/ISIS is now promising to nuke America/American concern(s) within a year.
