Can We Please Get God Out of Religion? (Barf)
Daily Beast ^ | May 24, 2015 | Barrett Holmes Pitner

Millennials—soon to be the largest generation of Americans, surpassing the baby boomers—are fleeing organized religion in droves. As a result, a generation of Americans is creating a national existential crisis. How can a country that regularly proclaims “God Bless America,” emblazons its currency with “In God We Trust,” and mentions God so frequently that it could make a secularist nauseous, survive if the largest demographic is indifferent toward the Almighty?

According to a recent study by the Pew Research Center, about 35 percent of millennials have no religious affiliation and thus are categorized as the “nones.” Approximately 56 million Americans are religiously unaffiliated, and the horde of “nones” grows steadily by the year.

Isn't religion without God paganism? I am no Nietzsche expert but I read a few articles and if I understand right when you kill God like this Mr. Pitner does there is an massive void that all the happy talk of Mr. Pitner cannot fill. From what these authors say Nietzsche would spit at these shallow atheist like Pitner.

In other words, if you remove dogma, concerns about the Almighty, and the afterlife, and only focus on the spiritual elements of faith you can still lead a productive and healthy life regardless of what you believe in religiously: if you even believe in anything at all.

The "spiritual elements of faith" evidently include no beliefs whatsoever except, I gather, what the public schools call Self-Esteem.

Beat me to it. There must be no "higher authority" declaring any particular act immoral. It's merely, "I think it's swell, and so it is swell, because I'm me."

"... your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

The Left is convinced that they deserve godhood. It was promised to them by their master.

Well Voltaire always said that people who do not worship God have a tendency to focus worship on someone or something else. “If God did not exist, then it would be necessary to invent him”.

indifferent toward the Almighty?

The sentiment will be reciprocated.

>>Pew sucks & is not to be trusted.

Barna has done similar studies with similar results and they are more trustworthy. As the time of Jesus’ return approaches, we are warned that we should expect this great falling away.

Can We Please Get God Out of Religion?

Sure! Now... what could we worship in God's place....

I KNOW! THE GOVERNMENT!

We are becoming the Soviet Union so swiftly, it is mind-boggling.

Sure. Just replace "God" with "insert your savior" and we'll be well on our way.

In fact, we already are.

Millennials, in general, are the most ungrateful, entitled, selfish, narcissistic, vision-less, ignorant generation this country has ever produced. The gap between perceived knowledge, understanding, and wisdom and actual knowledge, understanding, and wisdom has never been greater in any demographic. Every idiotic, sinful habit celebrated by the typical millennial, and their spokespeople, is defended based on “the generation gap.” They readily believe anything that proves how stupid their parents are. That would include religion. The left is licking their chops at these automatons.

>>Isn’t religion without God paganism?

Even pagans have their gods. Religion without God (or even gods) is just Humanism and the basis for Humanism is that “people are generally good and deserve better”, which is Satan’s greatest lie. People who know God know the true the nature of Man and what we deserve.

Look at the average millennial’s Instagram, and you’ll discover who they worship.

This could only make sense to a liberal.

We are raising a generation of self absorbed and morally bankrupt souls in perpetual adolescence.

Their “spirituality” is a mile wide and a quarter of an inch deep.

“Watter’s World” on FoxNews showcased the abysmal ignorance of Millenials at Harvard and Yale! Of course, they are no more than products of America’s abysmal public schools.

At least they’re taking some of the pressure off Baby Boomers as America’s worst generation. But you know, most Boomers were not hippies & draft dodgers; many are Vietnam vets with families, long work histories, & commitment to moral values.

Intergenerational warfare will get us nowhere. We’re under attack by global jihad & it’s time to pull together.

Miller proposes that spirituality—which she describes as religion minus the belief in dogma, the veneration of prophets and deities, and the fixation on the afterlife—is an innate human trait that needs to be encouraged and developed. Through extensive research, Miller asserts that spirituality encourages children to believe in something greater and more powerful than themselves, and as a result they develop more resilience and less anxiety throughout life. People who engage in spirituality, she finds, are 40 percent less likely to use and abuse substances, 60 percent less likely to be depressed, and 80 percent less likely to have dangerous or unprotected sex, according to her findings.

Interesting dilemma...

The self centered life doesn't work ! Who knew ?

Having attended churches now for more than 35 years after never setting foot in one until the age of 20...

I was completely unchurched as a youth so a "religion" was imprinted on my mind...notice I didn't say heart...I did not understand Christ and Christmas was even related !!!

So I did not have to unlearn all the erroneous teaching and dogma from my youth...

The most successful churches in growing and making strong believers were churches that centered their teaching and preaching on a believer being "Christ Centered" not Church centered or whatever passes for religion nowadays.

It is no surprise then the the young are leaving the church in droves because the church except for a few exceptions are not meeting the needs of the believer...

Their greatest need is "Christ" and Him alone..
