When seas rise, will your home be under water? Website helps Miami...

Florida International University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication in conjunction with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Center have developed a web app, known as the Sea Level Rise Toolbox, which helps Miami-Dade residents visualize the possible impact of rising seas in South Florida on their neighborhoods.

...."Our goal with our app is to inform residents of South Florida about the potential impact of sea level rise where they live,”– said Susan Jacobson, assistant professor of journalism at FIU and the web app project manager. “We want to help our fellow Floridians understand sea level rise and how it may affect their community.”

How is it that sea levels have to rise with AGW?

Perhaps it is more likely that land levels will fall.
After all, with all that is going on, churches having transgendering services, war on police, ISIS running rampant, the Republic being transformed under us... we are sinking pretty low. The land levels are probably sinking faster than any sea levels rising.

Does anyone know if the seas are indeed rising beyond the normal, natural tides and such?

When global warming temps topped out at the beginning of this inter-glacial, thus bringing us temporarily out of the two million year ice age we are in, the oceans were 20 to 30 feet higher than today. We are on the cusp of going back into the deep freeze and the oceans will drop back down to about 500 feet lower than they are now. That’s right about where the continental shelves end.

I believe rising seas will be low on the list of concerns in the future. A couple feet of rise over a hundred years—should such occur—can be mitigated by existing technologies. Worst case? Some people may have to move. Again, it should be the least of our worries.

The left should be happy about global warming. It’s a chance for the poor to get beachfront property thereby improving their lot in life.

One thing that is almost never mentioned is the porosity of the earth’s crust.

A couple years ago there was a hydrogeologist in town to explain wastewater injection wells and their effects. I happened to run into him at the local diner the next morning and we started talking about global warming and sea level rise. He said global warming or not, he wouldn’t expect any major sea level rise.

He said that basically, more water in the oceans means more water forced into the earth’s crust. While the sea levels were considerably lower during the last ice age, the rise at the end of them was not as great as it should be according to current models used. He said that even during particularly warm periods when there were no ice caps at all, the sea levels were not 300 meters higher than they are now.

I do not believe this hoax called climate change. But let's assume for the sake of argument that the seas could rise from AGW. What is man going to do to reverse it or prevent it? Except for stealing more money from my wallet, I have not heard any hard, specific answers. Running around with your hair on fire, screaming that the world is burning into a crisp, it not that same as actually doing something to avoid or prevent or reverse the problem.

The globe is swamped in enormous debt and there are wars and instability everywhere. We've got so many problems here in the US that we will be lucky if we ever recover from the mess Obama has gotten us into. Low, and I mean very low, on the list of things the voters want their politicians to deal with and address, is climate change. It doesn't even break into the top 25 problems voters want addressed by our "leaders".

And yet here is Obama and his fellow Marxist bootlickers, claiming climate change is the number one threat to the country and it's national security. Not only is this false but it is being used to mollify the far Left environmentalists and for the rest of us, a smokescreen and distraction from all of the failed policies of his administration.

And I still don't hear a solution to this "alleged" problem facing humanity. All I hear is screeching that we need to quit denying its existence and do something about it. That's the part that's never addressed. What do these fanatics plan to do? What?

I’ve had a leftist try to use the argument of sea level rise and “is that the world you want your kids to have to live in” as the reason we should “do something” about AGW.

I assert that the world would be far worse under the “solutions” they propose - ie, global fascism and elite tyranny,

than under a reduced land surface area.

And the former is a GUARANTEED OUTCOME,
while the latter is unknown at best, and a hoax/lie at worst.

I thought Obama promised to stop the seas rising in 2008...don’t tell me he lied!

He thought he could do it by lowering the land (ie, transforming the land), but as is often the case with lieberals, the laws of unintended consequences, by lowering the land, the seas appeared to rise even more.
