regarding drug sentences, I wouldn’t know if they are harsh or not because I never dealt drugs. When I drove a cab I had plenty of offers. I also had plenty of drug dealers in my car and they were not innocent guys trying to make a buck. they were pretty bad characters.

If individual states want to outlaw drugs, that's a different issue. They can write their Constitutions to allow it, but the US Constitution has something called "The Bill of Rights" and the last article of it, Amendment X says, "if you don't see a power enumerated here, the Feds don't have it."
Also try justifying the legality of depriving an accused person of his liberty or property without due process -- which is exactly what "asset forfeiture laws" do.
Oh, wait, you won't be able to find that, because the Constitution specifically OUTLAWS it in both the aforementioned Bill of Rights and Amendment XIV.
Has the Patriot Act really made us safer? That's a debate we should have. Generally, most pols are very long on scaremongering, and very, very short on justification.
Paul is not my guy. But I'm struggling hard to find much difference between his "liberal" tendencies and those of, say, Mike Huckabee or most of the Republicans in the Senate and about half of the people in the House.
