Standing Athwart the March of History, Yelling, Stop! Wait for Me!
With its managing editor endorsing same-sex marriage, will National Review join the ranks of the Church's persecutors?
... For many of us, National Review is indispensable daily reading. It hosts many of conservatisms most gifted writers. Indeed, The Stream is proud to publish columns by such NR stalwarts as Jonah Goldberg, Rich Lowry and Kathryn Lopez. This is why the publication of a long essay defending same-sex marriage by National Reviews managing editor Jason Lee Steorts is so distressing. Steorts defends both same-sex marriage and, by implication, sexual relations between people of the same sex. His isnt merely the misguided but understandable libertarian plea for the state to get out of the marriage business. Rather, its a lengthy critique of what he calls, somewhat dismissively, the traditionalist view of marriage. ...

Truly sad. Such degenerate idiocy would never have made it in to print in Buckley’s day.
Excuse me, but you asserted, quite boldly, that WFB was pretty liberal socially ... That is a long stretch to connect with one topic on which he held a liberal point of view.
And my “agreement” was not “with you,” per se - if by that remark you intend to opine that I support your unfounded assertion that WFB was “pretty liberal socially.” More, my response was given as a reasoned condemnation of contraception, and the evils that progress from its practice, WFB’s opinion notwithstanding.
It has been over for a while. They even tried to give Sainthood to terrorist Mandela and said he had more moral authority than any person on Earth....
a terrorist!
Truly, much that passes for journalism these days is total garbage - devoid of reasoned thought, and more inclined to making ratings than discovering and reporting the objective truth of an issue. It is no longer “news” (how I despise that word!) but rather it is whatever scandalizes and incites the emotions - the intellect be damned.
You lost me there - who attempted this act of moronic relativism?
I’ll read your response tomorrow night - It’s late, so I’m hitting the sack!
It looks to me like he just asked a question. Granted the question did assume that Buckley was a social liberal. But that’s because he thought Buckley was not anti-abortion. He corrected himself on that point, noting that while Buckley went against Catholic teaching on contraception, he was pro-life. He posted a link showing that to be the case, and he admitted he was in error earlier. I’m a Buckley fan — subscribed to NR for years — and I don’t see what you’re so fired up about. I’ll add that any assertion containing the qualifier “pretty” is not exactly bold.
“William F Buckley must be turning in his grave!”
Somebody over at Chronicles Magazine began referring to the new version of NR as “The Goldberg Review” to spare Buckley’s once valuable journal from being connected to the current abomination.
But the reality is that Buckley was a good deal responsible for handing over his magazine to the girly-boys and dimwits who trashed the place. Sic transit gloria mundi.
No, he had a libertarian streak (same one Goldwater and Reagan cherished), which is a lot different from a "liberal" streak, and tons different for this Prog Stalinist crap we put up with every day.
Saying "I have liberties" is loads different from "I am a sodomite and you will put up with my making it the law of the land, that you shall burn incense on the altars of Dagon and Melqart."
Essentially a marriage is a form of a Partnership.
Partnerships cannot be formed for illegal purposes.
Sodomy is a crime (High Crime/Felony).
How can same sex marriages possibly be legal except in the twisted minds of leftist Jurors?
Can’t wait to see/read the SC’s contortions on this. /s
No, he isn't, and no, you didn't "ask the question" -- you trolled it.
You're actively suggesting that Wm. F. Buckley, who once called Gore Vidal, "you goddamn queer" on national television, was in favor of sodomite "marriage". And you knew he wasn't when you put the question.
Troll.
Correction, FRiend. Archterrorist.

Among world leaders, Nelson Mandela had unmatched moral authority - NR Editors

and so the deluge begins.
Current National Review turned left some time ago.
Was Buckley against gay marriage?
Was the Pope Catholic?
The chief reason many of us can’t grok homo “marriage” is simply the understanding that homosexuality is not normal. It is a mental disorder. You do not give the sanction of an institution like marriage to people based on a mental disorder anymore than you’d allow a father to marry his daughter or someone to marry their dog.
He’s also responsible for ousting Mark Steyn from NR for not agreeing with NR’s homo-marriage stance.
Absolutely. Unfortunately, it's tough to start an alternative magazine these days. We need to fight for this one.
There’s no room for a conservative cable news network either. “We report - We decide.”
