I call BS on that.
My future son in law got into the boiler makers a few months back. We have a severe shortage of welders in this country and the boiler makers union has stepped up to train as many welders as possible. My son in law is already out working and making good money as an apprentice.
The training is free. While taking the OSHA class they fed the students everyday. They had menus from all the local restaurants so you could order whatever you wanted. During the process of getting their certifications all the materials were provided and the Union paid you $20 dollars a day. The instructors were all very experienced guys and very welcoming. It is a brotherhood.
